Does anyone know what is happening with resales. Is it still safe to do them or are privileges going to be taken away from resale owners. Will it be all resales already purchased or just ones purchased in the future?

Ok, I just went over to **************** and read a bit. Ya, I bet Disney is going to do something.

I seriously doubt Disney does anything. Any change would certainly bring legal challenges.

Sweetening deals for direct sales would be the best way to go...free ap or waterpark tics or buy one get one free tics or meals etc would cheap for Dvc and avoid legal or other problems for them!

Well from what I read, they were talking about not being able to trade out to DCL or RCI or somthing like that, and I would'nt do that to begin with anyways. Only using points at an actuall DVC resort. So it may not effect me much if I were to ever purchase resale. But what legal implecations could this have for DVC? Could they lose a lawsuit or anything???

It would surprise me if they took the cruise away. I thought that the cruise industry was way down. am I wrong?

I am not saying they will do something but I did some checking with contacts after these rumors surfaced and I was told that they can do this and if they felt it would protect the value of DVC they would do it.

Believe me the legal team at DVC and Disney is top notch, they would never go forward with something that they felt could be legally challenged.

Also in the list was limited to bookings only at home resort.

and limited to bookings only at 7 months.

Well what would happen if you can't get your home resort at 7 months? I would defanitley buy where I wanted to stay, but can you really get the Beach Club at 7 months?:confused3

You can at certain times but because you would not be able to at all times, that would make resales less attractive hence the reason for doing it, if they did.

My contact was not aware of any plans to do this, but he said they certainly could.

Well, I am beginning to think that maybe DVC will not be for us in the future. Renting points may work better for us, if that is still allowed.

From everything that I've read I think that it makes more sense for Disney to add perks for direct sales rather than take away benefits. The reduction of benefits would detract from direct sales because the resale value would go down.

However, who knows?

Scare tactics is what I am seeing here. If they want to protect their direct market they would be wise to give more incentives to them. If they harm the resales, who would want to buy a product that you could not sell later when you are done with it, or need to if it was worth significantly less.

Please remember that you are talking about internet rumors where the source has not been disclosed. Disney (and most large corporations) use brainstorming sessions to look at aspects of their business. During these sessions, many trial balloons are floated and discussed and the vast majority are discarded. Many of the rumors assigned to DVC are of that nature and were never truly considered, but may have come up in one of these meetings.

Unless/until DVC announces a policy (and that policy is actually implemented) anything is merely a rumor. In recent history, Eagle Pines was announced and construction even began and then the project was scrapped in favor of SSR. BLT was well under construction and everyone "knew" that it was a DVC resort long before DVC made any announcement. Currently there is rumor that another DVC resort will be built in the Ft.Wilderness area, but no announcement has been made by DVC. As for procedural rumors, until they are announced and published by DVC, they have no official status or basis - but they do make for interesting internet speculation.

Stay Tuned! :)

I wonder if they implement changes and don't grandfather current members that bought resale(s) in the past... could a class-action lawsuit be possible?

The problem is they have to rent a DVC room to pay the cruise line for the member's cruise. They are having a hard time renting those rooms through CRO at the price they need. CRO ended giving free upgrades from values & moderates to SSR & OKW in August/September because they could not fill the rooms but had the values & moderates full. DVC recently limited the number of cruise reservations available to members. I believe most of 2011 is full.
