Resale purchase question

Looking for some advice. I’m looking at getting resale points to take a trip maybe every other year with my extended family. There are 12 of us so a GV works great. The only issue is we love Boardwalk. Just love the location and walking to two parks. I run every morning and the trail there is tough to beat (and Animal Kingdom is bad for this reason). Would consider a monorail resort or CCV but we don’t do MK as much as Epcot. The low cost for a GV at OKW is tempting but none of us really enjoy the location. I would just suck it up and buy Boardwalk but the 2042 expiration and relative high dues are the sticking points. Any insight or thoughts from anyone? Thanks.

First, I'm with you regarding the running options. We own at BC and AKL - love them both, but running at AKL is a mess! Running from BC/YC/BW is amazing. Second, even 2042 is 18-19 years of fun, experiences, and memories. Might be worth considering. Third, if you have as many as 12, keep in mind that sleeping arrangements might not always work out that 12 people sleep comfortably in a GV. There are times we prefer two 2BRs instead for more flexibility with beds. That might mean more points, but also open up other resort options. Tough decisions! BTW - we have stayed in OKW GVs and 2BRs, and they really are quite nice. But I understand the hesitation with the location to EP and the other parks. On the other hand, we love the dining options at DS, which is just a relaxing boat ride away at OKW - no buses or driving! Good luck with your decision.

No insights,,,but you have made all the main points. You have to way the pros and cons for your family as to where your priority is. I will point out you did not mention SSR. Has decent running route, close to DS.

I love the location of the Boardwalk, however the 2042 expiration date did not sit well with me, and this was with me planning to go every year. However, like you said, you are planning to go every other year, which limits your vacations to around 9 times. That may or may not work for you, but should be given a lot of thought. Flip side, I'm a big believer in buy where you want to stay, or at least would not be disappointed in staying at. Not to dissuade you from purchasing, but have you ever thought about renting points?

This is a lot of points to be committing to someone else's vacation. Especially expensive 2042 points. BW 1BR isn't that hard to book, it's the room I book most. You could do this with SSR points and book a few studios and 1BRs. You don't need a GV to have a lot of people. You can even put some of them at Dolphin and some at BW, they aren't far.

After I have had people flake, my GV dream is over. And it was one of the reasons I bought into DVC.

To plan every other year, you are tying up a lot of points. If someone flakes on you, this can put you in a really bad position. And they might have a completely legit reason.

Another point not mentioned anywhere above is age. I was fine with BWV because I'll be in my 70s when it expires and that's about as far ahead as I think I can plan. For how many years do you want to do these extended family vacations? As family dynamics shift, could you see that falling away and not having to worry about such a large group, in which case you do what YOU want to do? If you're paying, you call the shots!

Simple answer, buy where you want to stay. Don’t think about expiration and let that sway you to someplace you’ll be unhappy at even longer. Many take contract end date into where they buy, I don’t. It’s what I want for my vacations in the next 10-20 years that matter to me. Why I paid more for BCV with the 2042 end date. I can tell you wholeheartedly, I made the best decision ever, every time I’m step into Stormalong bay and smell the beachy lobby. Worth every penny!!

To counter this argument, the 2042 end date really doesn’t add up; you really need to consider how much it cost me to buy in, plus dues for the next 18 years, vs renting or just doing cash rates. At the end of the day, its your money and you need to do what’s best for you, but I’d recommend buying into a resort with a longer lifespan that you enjoy, and try your luck at 7 months to swap into BWV. But, to quote The Dude, that’s just, like, my opinion man! 😆

I disagree with this for my vacation needs. Vacationing extra years at a resort I don’t absolutely love, doesn’t work for me. Also, rolling the dice and competing with other folks who want into the same hard to get resorts, isn’t my jam,

I want to stay at BCV so that’s where I own. Since we generally need 2br, which cost lots of points, and are generally more available at 7mis vs studio, I supplemented my points by double to use at SSR or OKW if need be (which we also love).

I can say that every time I walk to my room in 10 minutes from Epcot is worth every penny. I’m ok with other resorts, but not ok with rolling the dice every year to justify a longer contract. To each their own, and everyone’s situation & styles are different. For us, couldn’t care less about when our contract ends knowing we have 19 years at the resort we always prefer to stay at 👍🏻

Not sure how many points you are looking at, but BWV has a great point chart, and the larger contracts should be available for a pretty good price. I am a believer in buy where you want to stay as well.
Agree completely!! BWV is my 2nd favorite resort and only owners have any shot at getting the standard studios which are a steal point wise. I’ve gotten lucky in the past getting a few nights in a standard studio here or there, but getting them at 11mos is a huge benefit of owning there imo. Since we love OKW & SSR, and rooms are most available at these resorts, the 2042 end date and ridiculously low purchase price @ Vero made sense. Obviously not a fan of the highest dues aspect, but overall savings of owning it for 5-10 years, made it a deal I couldn’t pass up. Even if we kept it until expiration, still was a no brainer. I doubt I’ll ever stay there tbh
