Resale or direct from Disney?

We are considering purchasing now (wish I had done it years ago) but are wondering about the pros and cons of buying a resale vs. buying direct from Disney. I understand Disney is offering about $8 off per point, but from what I understand that is still higher than buying the average resale @ SSR, which is going for $80-$90 pp. Any insights?

Also, does anyone know if you can purchase more points later if you decide you didn't buy enough to begin with?

Any word on a "meal plan" for DVC members? That is such a great deal when you stay at one of the hotels. We spent $472 on our plan last April and spent over $1000 worth of food in a week.

Thanks for any input!

We're thinking of buying now and are considering a resale. I understand Disney is offering a substantial discount but from what I gather, this would still be more than the average $80-90 pp that SSR resales are going for. Any other benefits to going direct through Disney?

Any word on a meal plan for DVC member?

Anyone know how many points it would cost to visit somewhere other than WDW?

Can I buy more points later and add them on?

Can you connect studios? (Frankly, I think the room/ bed situation is better at the hotels, considering you get 2 actual beds, rather than one bed and a pull -out in a studio.)

Thanks for any input!

I sent you a PM regarding the Friends & Family Discount of 15% on SSR. If you're looking at buying at SSR then this is a great deal through Disney. You'll receive points for 2005 and 2006.

You can always buy more points either through Disney DVC or resale.

Well ... it sounds like both responsed you have recieved are from people who want you to be the "Friends" part of the "Friends and Family" promotion. I don't remember what (if anything) they get if you use them as a referral.

I bought both my contracts on the resale market. If you want to own at BWV, BCV, OKW or VWL the best way to do that is to buy a resale. If you want to stay at any of those resorts during the busy seasons (Easter, Jersey Week, President's Week, July 4th, Food and Wine, early December, Christmas/New Years) then you should buy a resale at the resort you like the best.

Disney finances and pays all closing costs. With the current discount to just over $83/pt, that's very low. Add the closing costs for a resale and you're getting close to $90/pt. If you need a "friend" for the promo, I'd be happy to do it.

The meal plan will be available 1 Apr. Aside from Hilton Head and Vero, the points for locations outside WDW are pretty high -- 15-over 40 per night. It's a nice treat, but not anything that really makes fiscal sense on a regular basis. You should buy DVC to stay primarily DVC.

You can always buy more points later, though not all properties are available right away.

Studios are not located next door to each other. OKW studios have two double beds and the rooms are much larger than others, if that's your priority.

I just purchased 250 pts at BWV thru Disney. The advantage to buying from them was I got the 250 points from 2005 right off, so I will actually be receiving 500 points this year. You really need to do some research before making the purchase, but most private-party resales don't include much in the form of banked points, and many have already used this years points and may have borrowed from next year. When I crunched the numbers it was a better deal going thru Disney. I'd suggest going to the timeshare presentation at STS. My vacation club guide was Lauri Fauser @ (866) 364-5362. She was a blessing. She had all the answers for ?'s I had and made the purchase a breeze. Every time I left her a message, she responded within hours. If you choose STS as your home resort, keep in mind you may be able to get a discount with a DVC member referral. They were running a special while we were there, but I'm not sure that discount still applies. Good luck.

The answer to places other than WDW is 160 points for a 1 bed room or 270 with a 2 bedroom through interval in high season. I'm not sure what high or peak season is, but that is the most it will be plus a booking fee of either $75 or $95. You can also use it for other Disney properties like Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, DCL, etc.
Goodluck
