It appears that there is nothing to prevent buying resale for less than 150 pts even if its your only contract. I understand that SSR has a minimum purchase of 150. Am I missing something?

No you have it right. I think I remember reading of at least one person on these boards who started with a less than 150 point contract.

Disney has placed the 150 point minimum for any sales done directly with them. Resale purchases have no such limit- smaller contracts are often more difficult to find and tend to cost a little more due to closing costs, but are out there.

There are currently no SSR resales, so if you want the extra 12 years available at that resort, 150 points thru DVC is the only option.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your help! We're looking at a small VWL contract. I'll let you know how we make out.

unless you are already a dvc member you can purchase an add on at SSR 25-50-100 points, you would have to purchase 100 points if you want to finance it thru disney::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

While DVC may be more likely to excercise their ROFR on a contract of less than 150 pts to a new member, a number of people have had their first purchase be for less than 150 pts. The economics may not be there with the usually higher buy in cost and closings costs though. Good luck.

One thing you need to be aware of is that contracts of less than 160 points severely limit what you can do with DVC. Now, most of us will tell you that trading out is not a good use of your points, but with less than 160 points, you have no trading power unless you bank two years points.

I am one of the people on this board who own less than 150 points. According to the most recent poll there seem to be about 6 of us. As others have mention you may not get much of a savings per point on the purchase. In my case I saved about $5 per point over the going rate at the time I purchased. But I saved thousands of dollar over a purchase of 150 points.

I own 60 points at OKW and that is enough for 6 nights in adventure season in a studio with one weekend. As Diane mentioned there are several things I can's do. Most II trade are out of the question as well as the CC. But with banking and borrowing I can still use most of the Disney Collection including lower levels on the Disney Cruise Line.

The worst part is that small resales are hard to come by. I would call all of the major resale places and get on their call list. Most small resales never make it to the web site. I would still check the website from time to time to see if their is anything on their you are interested in buying. I was on the call list but ended up finding the one I ended up buying on the web site. I wasn't called because it had a few more point then I said I was looking for.

Good luck on your search.

Jeremy
