okay. I’m apparently going to start posting a lot.

Husband and I are considering putting in an offer on a resale property - likely SSR for value - and have preferences on where to stay but happy with any DVC ultimately.

Here’s the thing - we want to go Oct 28-Nov 2 and want a Aug or Sep use year. Is there any way to make this happen? Open to split stay... do people ever put offers in that include “book this for me so I don’t lose out on the opportunity”? Is that even possible?

You will have to rent points or pay cash. All reservations are cancelled when you purchase a contract. If the seller books something for you, then his/her reservation will be cancelled upon the sale. I would recommend renting points from an owner for the reservation you want, and then just renting out your points once you own to cover. Good luck.

I hadn’t even thought of that. Lol. And we rented for our last trip.

Now to investigate whether there is anything Oct 28-Nov 2. Off to the rental boards. Haha.

There is currently availability for 1BR and 2BR at SSR and 2BR at OKW.

Get on that rental board ASAP! :D

I have done this for people when I have privately sold contracts. I sold a big 300 point ssr two years ago and booked someone a week at okw in a 2br w the points. I just transferred the points out of the ssr membership into another one of my memberships and made the ressie. so nothing interfered with the contract transfer.

At The Timeshare Store, Inc.® we have done these type of transactions so it is possible. When offering on the property you would have that request as part of your offer. The big thing is that the property cannot close until after you check out.

It's likely too late to buy, buy and use for this time. Maybe you could find a resale with banked points, buy but close after or during the trip and get the currently owner to book for you to use. Otherwise, rent or pay cash in some way. Rushing to buy for this is a recipe for a bad choice and/or poor outcome. Fortunately you would not be making the mistake many do in this situation, going resale or buying before you knew enough to make a good choice.

Thank you everyone for your ideas! Great to think outside the box. After all of this, I'm thinking we might go slower on the resale and wait and see where things are in a month. Based on ROFR thread, it seems they are taking a whole lot more than 3-5% of offers - likely a reaction to the new 75 direct rule. I think we might just chill for a bit and look in a few months.

The year we purchased our first contract, it closed and ourpoints were loaded just before the 7 month window opened. We still had to do a split stay but were able to find rooms. If you purchased today, assume 1-2 months to close and points loaded (best case), its possible, but not likely you would find much of anything available.
If you haven't, read through all of the purchasing DVC stickies at the top. There is an incredible amount of information there to help you with your choice. And even decide if DVC is right for you.

Oh I know! I read so much- this site is SO very helpful!

I also really appreciate what some folks say - like you aren't considering all the cost associated - you have "free" (prepaid!) Disney lodging - you still need Disney tickets and Disney food and that's a fortune too...

I'm not sure it ever TRULY makes FINANCIAL sense - but I think that is true of ANY vacation - how does staying at a hotel make financial sense... lol
