required travel documentation

I came across this today at Carnival's web site, and thought I would pass along what they are expecting for travel documentation...We want to be sure that all guests are advised that Carnival does require proper travel documentation at embarkation. Our policy states that any guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund will be provided. Due to the heightened level of security, Carnival is strictly enforcing this policy.

United States and Canadian citizens must provide proof of citizenship in the form of a passport (valid or expired for less than 10 years prior), original birth certificate, state issued certified copy of a birth certificate, U.S. Military ID, or original naturalization papers. In addition, guests that are 16 years or older must provide a photo ID.

Please review our fleet brochure in the Things to Know section under "Passport Data" for additional details.

We request that you have the required documentation before leaving home for your Carnival cruise. Please understand that you will be denied boarding at embarkation without proper documentation and no refund will be provided. No exceptions will be made.

We are confident that you understand the need for this important security procedure.

All U.S. and Canadian citizens must travel with proof of citizenship, which is a
valid passport, or certified birth certificate with a picture identification, or a
certified naturalization certificate with a picture identification. Acceptable forms of
picture identification are state or provincial driver's license with a picture, or
federal, state, province, or local government photo I.D. card. Children 17 and
under who are U.S. or Canadian citizens are only required to have proof of
citizenship, excluding picture identification.

All Guests who are non-U.S. citizens residing in the United States will be required
to travel with their Alien Registration Card (Green Card) and valid passports. All
other Guests must have valid passports and necessary visas at time of
embarkation. Travel documents required throughout the vacation are the
responsibility of the Guest. Please consult with your travel agent, government
agencies, embassies, or consulates to determine documentary requirements.

Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board
the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued.

For all non-U.S. citizens, including Canadian citizens, travel documents will be
collected at check-in by a Disney Cruise Line representative and a
passport/Alien Resident Card receipt will be issued for presentation to
Immigration Inspectors upon return to Port Canaveral. </DD></DL>

Notice the line: "Any Guest traveling without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of cruise fare will be issued." I wonder how often this actually happens?

Didn't DCL, at one time, accept an expired passport as valid ID?

I believe you're correct, Carol. I think this changed as part of the new security measures last fall.
