Requesting to stay in same room

I have 4 nights booked in a Wilderness Lodge studio with a walk in shower - 1 night cash, 3 nights DVC. Is there a possibility I won’t have to change rooms? If so what’s the best way to request this? Is there a number I can call, or an email?

What you have is called a continuing reservation. Call and have a note put on the earlier reservation noting that you have a continuing reservation, the confirmation number for the second reservation, and that you want to stay in the same room if at all possible. I would recommend checking in at the front desk instead of online check in, and mention the continuing reservation again, and your wish to remain in the same room.

There are no guarantees, but I have done this and not had to move. I did have to go to the front desk to check in again for the second reservation, but I did it early enough that if I would have had to move, I would have had time to prepare to do so.

No benefit to skipping online check-in, rooms are assigned days before you arrive not at check-in. Call ahead and have the note made on your res. Do go to the front desk before you go to your room and ask if they were able to keep you in the same room, if they weren’t they may be able to look at it again and have it switched so you can stay. (The benefit to still doing online check-in is it speeds stuff up at the front desk when you do have to talk to them.)

I agree that it doesn’t hurt your chances to do online checkin, but in the case of a continuing reservation when the room assignment is so important, I haven’t noticed it saving me a lot of time when I am at the front desk and they have to double check everything anyway. Continuing reservations are the only time I don’t use online check in. For all other circumstances I do. The time savings probably depends a lot on the CM you end up working with at the desk.

The important part in my opinion is communicating at every chance you can that you want to stay in the same room if at all possible, especially when checking in for the first reservation.

I use online check-in for all my continuing reservations, have never had an issue not getting my room, always check with front desk first. My point was it is unnecessary to skip it if you like it.

No matter what methods used for requests and check-in, going to the check-in desk is needed if you want to confirm a continuing reservation. To give it our best shot we arrive to desk asap and let them know it is our top priority, even if that means not getting in the room before 4pm. There’s a benefit to them too so your chances are good.

I don’t agree with this. I’ve checked in as early as 10 am and have been given a room. Your best bet is to go to the front desk and let them know what you are looking to do. I’ve done the same thing that you are looking to do a few times and never had an issue

I agree with calling and having the "continuing reservation" notation placed on the first reservation. I would also try to have it placed on the second one, but the owner of the DVC points would have to do that by contacting Member Services and giving them the reservation number for the first reservation. If you're the owner of the points, you can Chat/email/call MS to do this; if you're renting points, you can request that the owner Chat/email/call MS.

We are at the Riviera now with two reservation numbers. I checked in online for both. However, I went to front desk on the first day. She verified they already had me in the same room. Since I had a CC on file for the second night, she said it would be seemless.

Sure enough, I just checked and MDE now automatically has me in the second part of the stay, same room, and nothing I need to do.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with calling.

We may be the exception, but we had full housekeeping service today even though we didn't change rooms. Today was Day 1 of the second reservation. Nice surprise after all day at the park!! Both stays on points.

That’s great!!

I’ve never been that lucky but I haven’t done back to back at RIV. I’ve had a couple normal trips to RIV and found their housekeeping to be excellent when I communicated our needs through the front desk.

I agree there is no guarantee this will work out. I doubt there is any 'best' way to do this to guarantee you get what you want. Even with online check-in, I would stop at the front desk upon arrival so you can talk with a live person who can look-up both reservations. Many at the front desk seem very helpful and more knowledgeable than some of the offsite Disney phone people who just guess at answers to questions when they don't want to be bothered looking up something.
