Requesting servers - does it really work

Yes! We have had the same Assistant Server on the Wonder three times. HE IS THE BEST!

Personally I want to request my head server. On the Fantasy We had Faisal 3 years ago (now on the Wonder) Wit 2 years ago and last year Faisal with Wit handling the other side of the dining room so we saw him every night. We have a cruise coming up so I am making the request.

He was our head server last month on the Wonder.

I’ve requested my servers on my last 2 cruises. Nov 2017/fantasy and February 2018/Wonder, but I didn’t get my request either time. I’ll keep trying.

If you requested a team, that contributes to why you may not get them. The teams do not stay together for any number of reasons, so if a team is requested and no longer together, they have no idea which you prefer. That is why it is best to request ONE. Then if they are still a team, that is a bonus. (Ditto if you are putting additional requests like “private table” or a certain rotation. The more requests, the harder to meet them - and not knowing which is most important they go with “None”.)

Still no guarantees as people change positions, change ships, leave the company, have vacations... But having only one request makes it easier.

Yes, I misspoke, I only request the server, because the assistant servers change often. Plus their vacay comes into play too. It’s all about timing.

We often request our Server and have always had the request honored if the server is on board. I too would not recommend requesting a server based on someone else's suggestion. With the great servers we have had, they see us enter the dining room and come over to greet us. Servers also get "bonus points" when they receive requests or written comments on their comment cards. Recently we boarded the day our favorite server had left for vacation, they assigned us to a table served by one of his good friends and almost immediately he said oh, your the family who requested his friend. It was every bit as enjoyable as having some of our other preferred servers and he treated us like royalty because we had requested. During the dining room meetings they announce the servers who have received requests and special kudos and who is getting special benefits like extra hours off due to their exceptional service.

So for us, while we have some special relationships on board, we also make requests because they mean so much to the people who have treated us so well. We have plenty of opportunity to meet new servers when our request is not on board or at breakfast and lunch in the MDRs.
