Requesting Dedicated vs. Lockoff 2BR Unit

I had an issue come up with MS that I never encountered before. Does this sound correct? In December 01 I made a resv. for a 1BR at OKW for Thanksgiving week 11/26-12/02. In Jan 02 I called MS to change it to a 2BR. I was told it was available, discussed add'l # of points needed, etc. Last week I called CRO and confirmed a 2BR for cash at the $299.00 AP rate for 11/25 instead of staying off-site for the first night. When I called MS to link the cash CRO resv., she pulled up the reservation and said I was confirmed in a 2BR lock-off. I asked what she meant by that and she said when I changed to a 2BR there were "apparently" no dedicated 2BR's left so they confirmed a lockoff. She said they should have mentioned this. She indicated that you can request dedicated vs. lockoff to be confirmed as an availability issue not only as a special request. I've never heard of this and have never been asked about a preference. I would prefer a dedicated 2BR.

What does it say on your January confirmation letter? It should appear on there.

I believe dedicated vs lockoff is an actual room category that they reserve rather than a request. When I made my reservation for BWV last year, when I gave them my requests, I requested a dedicated 1 bedroom. They said my reservation was already setup as dedicated. So I think they treat it like they do a view at other resorts. For example, if you have a garden view room reserved and you want to add a night and all they have left is water view, you'll have to change rooms.

When I made my 2 bedroom reservation for 12/1-12/6, I did not specify either or. I would love to have a lockoff since my MIL and SIL will be staying in the 2nd bedroom. From what I have been reading a lockoff would allow them to have their own entrance. But since everything is booked, I wonder if I could still request a lockoff. Any ideas?

I usually do not request either, but have always gotten a dedicated. Last January, we requested a lock off since we wanted to have a 2 bedroom for the first 5 nights and a 1 bedroom for the last 5. That way we didn't have to move.

BTW, someone goofed, because when they did the full clean at the end of the 2 bedroom stay, they didn't close or lock the door to the studio portion. I came in later in the day and DID close and lock it, because I was afraid it would be rented and open to our unit. As it turned out, no one stayed there! I wish I would have kept it open!

Where are you staying? At BWV, all 2 bedrooms are lockoffs. If you're at one of the other resorts, you could call and see what they have you reserved for. The way I understand it, they usually book dedicated first, so that they can split the lockoffs into 1 bedrooms/studios reservations as needed. Then when the dedicateds are booked, they start booking the lockoffs that have not been reserved as 1 bedrooms/studios.

Are there lock-offs at HH? At the last minute, I added a one nt studio stay to the front end of our wk. stay in a 2 BD. I didn't think there were lock-offs in HH, so I never thought to change the initial ressie, although the 2 ressies were linked. Moving & waiting until almost 4 PM for the 2 BD wasn't horrible, but wasn't fun either. Esp. since HH is mired in a rainy week!

We had a ressie for a lock-off 2 br at VWL. When I made the ressies, MS asked me which I preferred. We thought extended family was coming along, so we figured a lock-off would be our first choice. The CM told be that it is easier to switch to a dedicated 2br from a lock-off. She said there are fewer lock-off units available. Anywho...... family already cancelled so we switch to a dedicated since our kids will now be in the 2nd room. Changing ressies was no problem.
