Requesting 'authentic' cruisine?

I saw this on the post about 'Is there any restaraunt that doesn't have a bad review within the last 6 months'. I hope laweryergirl doesn't mind me copying her comment, but I am curious. Has anyone else done this and does the restaraunt frown on it? I'd love to try the more authentic version of each country's cruisine.

This is OT, but I have learned that you can always ask any of the WS restaurants to "make the food the way they would at home/for themselves". That way, you can avoid the more streamlined "American" version that they serve as a general rule (in order to appeal to the widest variety of guests). This has worked best for us at Marrakesh and San Angel Inn.

At san angel, i always find that ordering in SPanish and talking about 'home' works for me :

In general, the Disney restaurants are great about making a meal any way you ask for it. It's one of my favorite things about eating at WDW

I never knew you could do this. What a great idea! I, too, would be very interested in trying this in Marrakesh.

Didn't even see this thread when it was first started!! LOL

Yes, it works beautifully. My couscous at Marrakesh was actually spicy and they brought me a full pot of harissa to put on it in case I needed more heat!! Trust me - it wasn't necessary!!!

The tip was actually given to us by our tour guide for "Hidden Treasures of World Showcase" - she says that she and her family make this request all the time and they have yet to be disappointed by their meals ever since!

I wonder if more people knew this if San Angel would get higher reviews?! I personally like the place but it gets a lot of negative reviews.
