Requesting a specific room?

Have any of you had any luck requesting a specific room? I had what I would consider a perfect studio at SSR 9/17. I’m staying there again this October and put in a request for the same studio.

I don't request a specific room. It is too hard to get based on the room assignors trying to fit all the reservations into the available room puzzle. I ask for characteristics of the room I want or a range of rooms.

I wouldn’t request a specific room. If the room isn’t available, the room assignor has no idea why you want that particular room. It’s best to put down what you want as far as location is concerned and hope you get something similar.

If you subscribe to Touringplans you can request a specific room, and they will fax a request for it. No guarantees, but I have used the service before and received rooms only a little bit away from the one I requested.

The one time I requested a specific room, I said "or room in the area with similar view". That's almost the only time when I got a room as far away as possible from the room area I'd requested. I decided that the room assigner was probably p***d off with me for requesting a specific room. The only time we've gotten a specific room request was when we were at Disney's Hilton Head Resort, and we requested 1 of 2 specific rooms. We got one of them, but it was a 1 BR, and since there are only 21 1 BRs at the resort, I figure the chances were pretty good. Besides the CMs there go out of their way so much for guests!

I have. Requested a specific cabin at Ft. Wilderness. When we arrived the CM at the desk told us that room would be available later in the day but they had others right away. We chose to wait and got the room I wanted.

Requesting a specific room is not advised. The chances of getting it are virtually none and none. The stars, the moon, and the tides have to align.
As PP have stated it is best to request the features of that room you would like

I've done the same thing through Touringplans. There is a section where you can write a note, so I wrote down the specific rooms we preferred but also noted the room characteristics we were hoping for. We did get the specific rooms we requested on that trip, but the second time I used the service, none of my requests were granted. They will do their best to accommodate you, but it's all based on availability.

Well, I'm one for one. Was thinking of trying again for my Sept trip. Would you advise I not even try?

Veteran DISers always advise not to request a specific room, but rather the details of that room that are what you seek.
That said, you can always ask. Just don't be disappointed if you do not receive that specific room. The guests before you in that room would have to be checking out on your check in date.

I'm not a veteran DISer and I'm very new to requesting rooms but that's what I was thinking; it's good to ask. I did on my January trip and got exactly the room I wanted. It wasn't available until later in the day so the CM at Check In told me that and gave me options.

I guess veteran DISers advise not requesting a specific room because you might be disappointed. I advise doing it because you might get what you want. Glass Half Full kind of guy. Let's see if I can go two-for-two!

I just called to make a room request. We are staying at POP and asked for a ground floor lake facing room - DH is a light sleeper so being away from main thoroughfares is ideal and we both prefer ground floors at any hotel. When I talked to the CM she said no guarantees but we were calling early and September is a slower month so it’s likely we will get what we asked for

I requested a specific room twice through Touring Plans at two different resorts. Both times I got the exact room I asked for. However, I also used TP's advice of listing a range of rooms with the same characters as the one I wanted. I think we got lucky but I was very happy with the results.

last November, we requested a particular room (through Touring Plans) and got the one right next door! Which I was pretty happy with. I say go for it!

I wonder if things are changing for the better regarding specific room requests...

Veteran DISers always advise not to request a specific room yet a few of us non-veterans have had good results.

DVC has told members they don't accept faxes and SSR is a DVC resort.
