Requesting a specific loop and/or site

Making our annual Halloween trip to fort wilderness. I have to say getting tougher each year to even get a campsite during Halloween. Almost as bad as getting a campsite for the knoxville nationals, sprint car fans will understand.

So can we still request a campsite and/or loop? Has anybody done this? What is the process? I recall a few old post that discuss faxing in a request. Is this still permitted?

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciate.

I usually just call and have the phone rep make a note in the reservation. Sometimes it works. The last two visits I actually got the same site, but have no expectation of that or even my preferred loop for Halloween. I just hope for a spot that doesn't have too many decorations to navigate around for backing in!

I normally fax a letter each trip on the Wednesday before check-in. We generally reserve weekend to weekend so it's basically 4-5 days prior. I outline when we will arrive, confirmation number, requested site number and mention the fact that your nightly fees are paid in full. I also give our RV type and dimensions so they don't try to fit us on something that won't work. I use the online check in feature and generally they respond right away with our site number. If it's not the one I requested, I check in at the entrance and inquire about a swap. Generally, we've be able to get our fav spot 9 out of 10 times.

If possible, we would like site XXXX in the Little Bear Loop of the 1400 area; however, any site in the 1400 Loops (Little Bear or Big Bear) will be appreciated as long as it will accommodate our 5th wheel trailer.

We have a Jayco 37 foot 5th Wheel with 3 slide outs and awnings. I’m confident site XXXX will accommodate our trailer, as we have stayed on that site previously. We like XXXX because it is close to the bus stop and other campground amenities.

Jeez all you are missing is the orphaned, handicapped, disadvantaged kids in that letter.

We have always called about a month out, have them note our camper size and the loop we would like to be in. Out of 4 trips we have been in our requested loop twice. So not as well as some others have done.

Well, first, thank you for taking the time to type a response. I am not criticizing your thoughts and want to relay how impactful your words were to me, a.k.a. a teaching moment.

We try not to take advantage of the less than fortunate life circumstances we ALL must live with. Whether it's one of the 3 less than desirable life circumstances you mentioned or some other mental, social, or physical limitation of our ability to live a full and rewarding life independently of outside assistance, we will make do and not rely on the sympathy of others to make our life a little easier. This would be classified as a run-on sentence in 8th grade English class. The short version is, we won't use our perceived disabilities to receive special consideration...except maybe the handicap parking spaces at Publix, MK, HS, AK, EPCOT, Doak Campbell Stadium, Raymond James, (the list goes on).

I know your post was in jest and we are truly not offended, as it does not apply to us...I don't think.

But it made me think (thank you for that). I'm not suggesting it was inappropriate towards us, but I hope those DIS members who fall into any of those categories you mention, or any others, are not offended.

The Magic of Disney is valuable and important to many patrons, but probably more so to those who live with disabilities whether physical, emotional, mental, or just plain ole' discrimination in general. One of the MOST rewarding times at WDW for us was in MK watching a little 5 year old girl with Downs Syndrome watching the parade of Disney Characters from the porch of Liberty Tavern. She was so excited that EVERY Disney Princess on EVERY float passing by made a special effort to wave specifically to her and catch her attention. We were in tears watching the joy on her face...an unknown (to us) little girl thoroughly enjoying the moment of being THE Special Little Princess to those Cast Members who saw her. And every one of them did! That's the Disney I know and love. (I hope the Magic does not get lost in their effort to promote profits over substance.)

So, thank you, PaHunter for shining a light on things I wasn't aware of in my own privileged life. Thank you...

Lots of great suggestions for placing a request in advanced.

When you arrive, if your assigned loop or site really wasn't what you hoped for, you can work with the CM to see what else is available. I have done that on several trips. The CMs at the check in booth have a book listing the site length and they can see what is open. If a site assignment text has not been sent for a site you would like, there is an opportunity to switch to a site that better fits your needs..

Yes my post to you was in jest, and glad you are not offended, nor anyone else. Even with my condition being what it is, I refuse to use my handicap placard. Next year I will push myself to be in shape enough to not need any special treatment.
We have been witness also to some of those great moments between cast members and kids that have a tougher time with life. My cousins son suffers from Downs Syndrome, but is growing up to be such a great young man, within his limits.
We are all blessed, and I did like that fax a lot. Covers all the bases.

Thanks to all for replies. I'll send my request mid sept and we will see what happens. I have about 20 sites that I'd be happy with. All in all I'm on vacation with family and it will all be good no matter how it works out. Plus my German shepard will be happy just to ride the golf cart looping

We've always simply had them annotate it on our reservation (preferred loop(s) and a site number) then we call a few days ahead to politely remind them of our request and say we understand 'no guarantees' . No special letters or faxes. We've always gotten the loop we requested, not always the exact site, but one 'close by'.

I've never found calling Disney a pleasant experience. For me faxing is soooo much easier than the eternity spent on "hold" on the phone. But, however you succeed in securing your preferred campsite (loop) is the ultimate goal. Glad you found a system that works for you.

I was just able to add 10/27 to my Halloween reservation, Premium category, after months of trying with no luck. Heads up for anyone else trying! Hoping to snag 400 loop.
