Kennel "Trip Reports", please! What was your experience with 'em?? I need the good, the bad & the ugly- (Since they're Disney... hopefully nothing but good reviews out there??)

:dog: :paw: :dog2: :cat:  :disrocks:

Somebody out there (esp. since there are so many pet lovers!!) has got to have used this service??

I don't know about the WDW kennels, but pets are allowed to stay with you in the rooms at the Universal Resorts. :paw:

Last I knew the Kennels at Disney are "daytime" only and offer no overnight boarding.

The biggest problem with the disney kennels is they offer little above a crate to store your dog. You have to come 2-3 times during the day to walk etc. It just not very convienent.

There are some really good looking pet "resorts" in the Orlando area. The one looks especially cute: Miss Emily's Bed and Biscuit: http://www.missemily.net/ however, a google search of "pet boarding orlando" pops up a lot of options!

ETA: I copied this from the disney web site:
With the exception of service dogs for Guests with disabilities, pets are not permitted in the Theme Parks or hotels, or on the Resort or Theme Park buses. They may, however, stay in one of the air-conditioned kennels, which are members of the American Boarding Kennel Association.
Pet Care Kennels are located adjacent to the Park entrances at Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. At the Magic Kingdom® Park the Pet Care Kennels are located adjacent to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

Kennel fees are $6 per day and/or $9 per night per animal for Walt Disney World® Resort Guests ($6 per day or $11 per night for non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests). Guests will be required to visit their pets at least once daily. Dog owners will need to walk their dogs at least twice daily (three times daily for puppies). The kennel at Epcot® offers a dog walking service for $2.50 per walk.

Resort reservations do not guarantee a kennel space for your pets; you should call for availability. Though the kennels have been designed for pets such as dogs and cats, they also accept birds, ferrets, small rodents and non-venomous snakes, if in their own carriers. The kennels are not set up to accommodate exotic animals. All Guests are required to show records of vaccination (rabies, parvo, DHLP, Bordetella for dogs; rabies, FPRC for cats) prior to boarding.

The plus is it's very inexpensive, but your dog is stuck in a cage until you come and let it out. I wouldn't like to a) worry that my poor pup needed to pee and no one was there to let it out b) have to get out of line to rush over to epcot to let him out myself.

I'd feel much better with hime in a full service boarding facility

Good luck

So you can't stay at the resorts and bring your pet with you? I really prefer to stay on property - but I guess I'll need to look into options. We do camp, but it seems increasingly more difficult to get a site at Forth Wilderness.
There's also my husband's hesitancy about backing our new 5th wheel (30 ft. long and only one trip out so far...) into those tee-niney narrow spaces! Well, that's a whole 'nother thread... Please keep the info coming, folks!

My BIL used WDW's kennels last year when he was evacuating from New Orleans during Hurricane Ivan.

He kenneled a dog and a cat at the FW kennels. It cost him $9 per day and they stayed overnight. The place was very clean, and the staff friendly. It is first come first serve, opens an hour before the parks open and closes one hour after the park closes.

He had to visit his pets a couple times a day to walk the dog. When we visited the pets, the staff there had actually let them out of the cages to play around because they weren't really full at the time.

Very important: if you're going to use the kennel, you must have vet signed papers for each animal. All shots must be up to date and current. You must have the papers on hand to show them or they won't admit the animal in the kennel.

My BIL was pretty happy with the service. Yes, it was a pain in the butt to keep going back to the kennel to walk the dog, but he didn't mind because he needed to see them anyway.

I can't give you any information on the kennels. However, I would feel much better if I left my dog at the kennel at home instead of dragging him down to disney only to be left in a cage with the exception of the two times a day you walk him. I love my dog, Jake, dearly, which is why I would feel better if she were at the kennel by where we live, but I would not want to go to Disney only to have to leave the park a couple times a day to walk her. At least at my kennel, I know that if something should happen, my Jake would go to my vet. If I could keep her in the resort with me, I would love to bring her, but since I can't, she will stay less than 10 minutes from home.
This is just my opinion and I if you want to bring your dog to Disney World with you, that's fine and it's your decision. I personally would not want my dog sitting in a cage all day while I'm in Disney and I would feel more comfortable with my kennel.
BTW, I had a job interview at the kennel we bring Jake to, so I know what goes on and have felt more comfortable with Jake there since I did that. If you end up going to a kennel by your home, make sure you go there first and check it out. If they don't let you have a tour to see where your dog would be, find another kennel.

We had a bad experience at the kennels @ Fort Wilderness. They WILL NOT take your dog out of the crate. You have to go back and walk them. The crates are tiny. It was so bad that I ended up sneaking a pug into the Caribbean Beach Resort. No one noticed. Also, the kennel didn't seem clean to me. Your much better off leaving your pet at home, or as someone else suggested stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Universal. They welcome dogs there!

Thanks for all the great info, folks! Our 3 big-uns stay in the yard at home (we've a neighbor check on them daily...) but our new puppy will need better care than that! I'd be tempted to try and sneak him in...so I guess if we can't get a doggy site at FW, boarding him at home would be the better option. Of course, if I could find somebody to come stay at the house with him, that'd be best of all. Looks like he'll have to do some crate time - can't live w/o the trips to see the Mouse!!

My family and I are going back to the World Sept. 1 - 5. We have two new dogs a bichon frise mix and a cocker mix that we rescued. My husband and I are going down to St. Augustine on Saturday to look at Pet Paradise a new pet resort where there are no cages. The dogs will be in a room together. Also, they have play time with other pets and a pool....http://www.petparadiseresort.com/

I see you live in Northeast Florida...so I am not sure of your exact location, but there is also a Pet Paradise out by JIA.

We looked at one kennel, but it was similar to Animal Care and Control where we adopted them from and the kennel owner said it could cause them to become unstable thinking that they had been returned to place they came from.

Hope this helps a little. Your new puppy is soooo cute. Is it a bichon or maltese?

Thanks for the great info - we're 20 mins from JIA - that'd be great to have close by! "Mickey" is a male toy poodle !

Mickey is so cute.

I just wanted to give you an update on Pet Paradise. We went to St. Augustine today to visit the location there. I was disappointed and although I think it was a nice facility, it just was not what I had expected. The pictures of the location at JIA do look nicer.

We did find another pet resort, though. Julington Creek Animal Walk on San Jose Blvd. It is very nice and actually less expensive than Pet Paradise. And for extra money...you can have Web Cam in your pets room. My husband was all over that one.

Well, I will be interested to hear if you go to the location by JIA. :paw:

Just wanted to say that Mickey is so adorable.
