Repositioning Cruises? Stupid question, I know....

So, in lurking here and there, I've heard about these repositioning cruises... how do you know which cruises those are? I've tried searching and I must suck at it, because I can't find anything!

Generally it's one that starts in one port and ends in another. Someone will surely have more info on that...

I'm on one next week, Dover to Barcelona. They aren't really tagged as 'repositioning' on the DCL website

I am on the transatlantic repositioning in September. I love them and love that many have longer itineraries which means more sea days (which I enjoy very much).

Generally it's one that starts in one port and ends in another.

Checking the itinerary the ship is sailing before and after also will help determine if the cruise in question is a "repositioning cruise." If the ship spends two months sailing a 7-day Caribbean itinerary from Florida, then there's a 1 week cruise from Florida to Europe, and then the ship sails 7-day Mediterranean itineraries for two months, the Transatlantic cruise would be a repositioning cruise.

I think it's mostly the Wonder and Magic ships that do the repositioning cruises. While the Panama Canal and Transatlantic are the 'big' repositioning ones, you also have the smaller ones, like San Diego to Vancouver (and vice versa) at the start/end of the Alaskan cruise season. Dover to Barcelona as listed above when the Magic goes from doing the Northern European cruises to doing the Mediterranean cruises. Miami to San Juan, Galveston to San Juan, San Juan to Port Canaveral, San Juan to Miami, NY to San Juan.

Dream and Fantasy only sail out of Port Canaveral, so no repositioning cruises. Only closed loop.

The Wonder will do the following repositionings:

2016
Aug 22: 4n Vancouver to San Diego
Aug 26: 14n San Diego to Port Canaveral (Panama Canal, last time through the old locks)
Then go to dry dock in Cadiz and end in Galveston, but all without passengers

2017
Jan 20: 6n Galveston to San Juan
Jan 26: 3n San Juan to Port Canaveral
Apr 23: 14n Port Canaveral to San Diego (Panama Canal, first time through the new locks)
May 17: 5n San Diego to Vancouver
Sep 11: 4n Vancouver to San Diego
Oct 17: 14n San Diego to Galveston (Panama Canal)

The Magic will do the following repositionings:

2016
Currently on: 12n Copenhagen to Dover
Jul 25: 7n Dover to Barcelona
Sep 17: 11n Barcelona to New York (Transatlantic)
Nov 5: 6n New York to San Juan
Nov 11: 5n San Juan to Miami

2017
Apr 5: 4n Miami to San Juan
May 7: 6n San Juan to Port Canaveral
May 13: 15n Port Canaveral to Copenhagen (Transatlantic)
Jun 18: 10n Copenhagen to Dover
Jul 21: 7n Dover to Barcelona
