The only way to get a AAA discount AND the dining plan is to book through a AAA travel agent-- is this correct?

If a general code comes out, can/will the AAA travel agent apply the code automatically rather than use the AAA discount (which I am assuming would be less)? I think there was a poster who said that their AAA TA couldn't convert their AAA package to a Disney code package. Am I better off just booking a package on my own and waiting (hoping) for a general code to come out?
I had my AAA agent tell me they couldn't convert my AAA package to a code package. But now as I'm reading more posts it seems someone else may have gotten this to happen. Maybe it was just my AAA agent? In which case I'm none too happy!
Anyway, I'd still book a AAA package and you can always do what I did, which is book your code package separately and then cancel the AAA package. That way you're assured a discount no matter what. Sometimes AAA package rates sell out.
