Florida Camper Rentals is reporting on their Facebook page that you will no longer be able to rent golf carts as part of your rv rental packages. Not sure if this is the beginning of eliminating all outside cart vendors but since cart rentals are a hot topic, I thought I would post this as a separate thread, in addition to the other thread I posted about the changes to RV rental companies at the Fort. If you have an outside cart reserved you may want to check with your company to make sure it is still valid.

Thanks for the info. I have a cart lined up with Kenny for my November trip, I'll give him a few days and check.

Looks like our bikes are coming back in style. No way I'm paying Disney's ignorant prices for a rental.

Sorry do you know how far in advance I can book a golf cart from disney. There are 6 of us so if I can't have a 6 seater do they give me 2 4 seaters
Thanks

mapmakerj, thanks for the update here too.

libbylast, no idea about advance booking but you don't reserve Disney 6-seaters. You only reserve 4-seaters and if a 6-er is available (limited number first come/first serve) you will have to pay the higher rate (iirc the upcharge is $20 daily although I could be wrong). If one's not available they will start a waiting list and contact you if one becomes available during your stay.

The legal aspect of the contract negotiation gives Disney the leverage to put this in place. The trailer vendors will agree to this provision to keep their delivery business going. That being said, however, the impact on Disney golf cart rental revenues will be only a drop in the bucket. It's the you-and-me individuals bringing in our personal golf carts or rental carts from off-property that's where the money is. Once Disney sees little lift in rental business after this new trailer vendor language has been in place, then they will turn the next screw.

Drip, drip, drip.

PS - again I'll reiterate that golf carts are an expensive convenience but by no means are they necessary to enjoy the Fort. In all my annual trips to the Fort as a family of five I've rented from an off-site vendor once (for some senior citizens in our group) and from Disney never (and never will).

Agree with Ed. Carts are a luxury and by no means required. We bring our own cart, and if that rule ever changes it will not result in more revenue for Disney from me as I would just use a bike or a bus. As soon as cart rentals passed the 40 a day territory they where overpriced.

Just got off of the phone with the bike barn, so far the only trailer rental company that can bring golf carts is Greenberg. i was disappointed as the company we are using isnt on their list and Greenberg didn't have availabilites for our dates.

SamRoc, I think that's because Greenberg might already have an existing vendor agreement in place with Disney (speculation on my part). Since the off-site golf cart vendor issue is fairly recent, I doubt Greenberg's contract had that restriction in it. However, these new agreements Disney is requiring from the other vendors would likely include a position on this recent topic and any others.

It's a safe bet, though, that once the time period expires that Greenberg's agreement covers, any renewal agreement/renegotiation will include the cart restriction.

I'd bank on it.

Spoke to Tee Times this morning. I'm still a go for my november trip, but they don't have any carts available the first two days we are there. Still have to meet offsite to pick up.

$200 for seven days vs. Disney's $420...
Uuummm...gee...let me think...

No way is $60 a day an option. When Disney does eliminate all offsite golfcarts they won't see a dime of increased revenue from me. I'll bring the bikes or walk.

I agree. They need to be realistic in their pricing. We have nice bicycles or heck we all could go in on a cart and trailer and storage area and it would be cheaper then paying Disney pricing.

Really glad to see this. We are renting through Tee Time for our trip in late November and I was beginning to worry.

Just wondering what your dates for November are. I will be there Nov 12 - 18. Made my ressies with Kenny a long time ago. He never said any part of it was unavailable so I am hoping we are set. I may call him next week and see how it stands.

We are November 14-23, so you should be fine. Maybe we'll run into ya! (Not literally)

Lol. Thanks. I bet Kenny is getting hit with a ton of phone calls right now. I don't want to bother him but may wait a few weeks and just check in with him to see how we can work out a pick up...

OK, folks, let's just take a breath.

1) Disney does not want outside rental carts.
2) So, they cannot be delivered to The Fort easily.
3) However, if picked-up off-site, WDW cannot determine if it is yours or a rental.
4) All they know is that YOU are a camper and are bringing in a cart.
5) As long as the cart rental company stays off-site to deliver, you should be fine.

NOTE1: Some rentals are over on the same day you arrive and the cart is
left in the cart-park area. In this case, the rental company can just let you
pick it up and drive it. This is how they might get around having you go off
site to take delivery of the cart.

NOTE2: As for WDW not wanting the competition from outside cart rentals,
this is actually not the reason for tying to limit rentals. The amount of carts
at The Fort is getting pout of hand and they want to reduce the number of
carts, if possible. Since not that many people actually own their own carts,
limiting the outside rentals helps cut down. There are too many accidents
and near misses with the cart abuses (speed, young kids driving, reckless
operations, too many on the cart, etc).

Hhmmmm, interesting. Never thought of it from that standpoint.

1) Yep.
2) Reckless cart operations are getting WAY, WAY out of hand.
3) Most Security folks just throw up their hands and ignore it!
4) Far too many incidents to stop it.
5) Heck, I was almost run over myself - and I was behind the Lobby Concierge desk at the time!

The statements in red highlighted above, shows that there is a real problem with security at the Fort. What kind of Security do you know that just "throw up their hands and ignore it". I don't call that Security, I call that someone getting paid and not doing their job. Why doesn't Disney get rid of those guys if they are that worthless. Yes there is a problem with speed, underage drivers and drinking on golf carts but why is Disney ignoring it. Limiting offsite rentals isn't going to eliminate this problem. Disney cracking down on violators is what is going to eliminate the problems. They should remove the offender's golf carts and if it continues, remove the offenders. Rather simple!!

Rusty - trying to visualize how you almost got run over by a golf cart when you were in the Lobby:confused3:confused3. Never saw a golf cart in the lobby before, is that allowed now??

OK, I agree! I think most of us can tell stories (yes, plural) about dangerous, speeding, inconsiderate cart drivers - some underage, some not!

What is Disney waiting on?? A serious injury? A (gasp) death?? As pp said, if security is aware (and how could they not be, everyone else is) what is their problem with not dealing with it?

I agree also that there are far too many carts, but the main issue that really bugs me is them not willing to enforce their 'own' rules! :confused3

Come on Disney, wake up!

. . . I agree also that there are far too many carts, but the main issue that really bugs me is them not willing to enforce their 'own' rules! . . .

1) You hear no argument from me.
2) But, there is a problem.
3) Managers hesitate to enforce many of the rules.
4) The actual, and often repeated, OFFICIAL mantra is,
. . . "I will make the guest's WDW vacation their best WDW vacation, EVER!"
5) Managers get major dings if complaints go above their heads to a higher manger.
6) That is why they give out comps so quickly to quiet guests.
7) So,
. . . when does a manager make subordinates enforce rules
. . . when does manager let guests get away with things
8) How many of us have seen guests doing wrong in front of CM's or managers with impunity?
. . . smoking in non-smoking areas
. . . clowning around recklessly
. . . drinking to excess
. . . roller blading or using tennis shoe "heelies"
. . . pushing other guests
. . . cutting-in on ride waiting lines
. . . not following CM directions/orders
. . . making loud noises in the wee hours at resorts

NOTE: Yes, many CM's are discouraged by their lack of ability to enforce
rules. I have personally witnessed a Front Desk CM getting cut down by a
manger for telling a guest they could not roller blade in the lobby! Things like
this make CM's simply not want to take the step to confront a guest. And,
remember, Security Guards are just hourly CM's.

Rusty,

I feel your pain. There are many comments (complaints) on the various forums about a general lack of rule enforcement at WDW. The only time I have heard of someone stepping in was when it directly involved immediate harm.

Your comments sum up managements dilemma well. The problem starts at higher levels though and the direction they have established. I understand the tactic though. Rewarding all complaints is one way to keep everyone happy without having to irritate anyone.

Someone complains because no one was stopping the little brat from chasing Rusty around the lobby in a golf cart- Comp them something

The little darling in the golf cart's parents complain when somebody has enough nerve to make the brat stop. Comp them something

Whether you're the one being disciplined or the one being bothered, everybody gets something. Everybody wins and no one complains to a supervisor.

Win/Win?

5) Heck, I was almost run over myself - and I was behind the Lobby Concierge desk at the time!
And Rusty, I saw the humor in #5. :)
