I hauled out my lightweight Slik tripod to take the lowlight assignment pics and noticed the clamp on the head was cracked a little. Today I it came off. :scared1: This was the one I was going to drag with me to WDW. I like the weight on this tripod my other one is a Master Slik and just too heavy for me to bring to WDW. If I can I'd like to put a new Manfrodo (sp?) head or something with a bubble level on. Has anyone else had a Humptydumpty head?:rotfl: or replaced one? Are they threaded standard sizes? I tried doing a search and came up empty.:confused3

my giotto head came with 2 different sized threads..so guessing common triopods can be one of 2 sizes,,,check and see if the head you want has a couple of threads with it...i'm happy with that head( giotto ball head) and i remember it was a decent price it has 2 levels on it..sorry it's in the car and don't remember the # right now

I have a lightweight Slik U5500 tripod, and a Slik Pro carbon fiber tripod. They are completely different beasts. The head on the U5500 does not come off, and if it was damaged, the tripod would be junk. I fear you may be in that situation...

TU, for your responses. It's probably junk. I think DS used it to take Moon pics mounting the Celestron and a Nikon 35mm body on it. That's what the Master Slik was for. Too much weight...kids:love:
So now I'm in the market for a lightweight compact tripod for my trip in March. I'll bring this head with me to the store to see if maybe I can find a replacement but not hopeful.
What do you all do with the tripods when you go on rides? Do they let you take it with you?

I make sure that our kid is with us and I stuff it in the little basket underneath his stroller. :teeth: This next trip, it'll only be my wife and I and the kid, who'll be just over three then so probably not using the stroller all that much, but we figure that it'll still be worthwhile having it, for afternoon naps, conking out at the end of the day, and for hauling our junk around.

Still, I think that you can probably get away with a tripod on the non-thrill rides, or if you have someone in your group who won't ride them, they can hang on to them.

Your other option is to stow it in a locker at the beginning of the day and grab it when the sun goes down.

There will probably be a couple nights next trip where I'm by myself later at night in the parks, and I have to resign myself to just not being able to ride all the rides since I'll definitely have the tripod at those times.
