Replacing Directv with streaming

I'm being told by some younger folk at work to skip Netflix and just go with Hulu and Amazon.

This depends entirely on your needs. You very well can skip Netflix and use both Hulu and Amazon. They essentially have the same offerings.

My family on the other hand (and I think we're young - I'm 28 and in grad school), we don't have HULU because we never used it. On occasion we'd watch Modern Family or Parenthood or something like that... but very rarely. There was more to watch on Netflix and Amazon than on Hulu, so we ended up getting rid of it after 9 months or so. Netflix works best for us because it is very easy to navigate for our 5 year old. She knows to only watch certain programming, and it is just easy.

Amazon is a little more difficult for younger kids, but it is great for adults and older children to manipulate. Just depends on your needs, and what your family likes to watch.

OP, I don't know the answer to a lot of your questions, but we mostly use netflix. I did want to tell you that when I used to watch the walking dead, I did it going to cokeandpopcorn.ch. It looks shady, but you don't have to download anything. I always got to watch the episode right after it aired. It's not ideal for large viewing audience, but it sufficed for me until I decided it was too violent for me to enjoy anymore.
