Replacing ADR within 24 hour

If I find a later/earlier time within the 24 hour mark - will I be charged a cancellation fee for changing times through MDE? Should I call disney reservations to be sure I'm not charged? Have YOU done this and know for sure? I've heard "I think you can..." So it makes me nervous!! Thank you!!!

You can cancel a ADR up until 11:59pm the day before, after that you will be charged.

Our last trip I did this. Day before our second DHS day DD said she didn't want to go back to DHS, wanted another MK day so I called to try to cancel MM Fantasmic! and got the you will be charged line from the call center so I went to the concierge desk and explained. She said no problem and cancelled it, no charges.
