I know that Disney is doing away with the Disney Club Card. Mine expires in December and we are going to WDW in January. Any ideas if they are going to introduce anything else for discounts and such? Or is the credit card the answer to this? Thanks, Dawn

Yes, the CC is supposed to be the replacement. Not a happy camper here. Universal is now getting much more of my business.

What is the CC???

AND, how is Universal gettting much more of your business? I would like to know because we really enjoy Universal but as yet I have been unable to crack lower than 270/night on site accomodations there--do you know of a discount program there I am missing?? We are staying there 3 nights (Jan 1,2,3).

We always get better Disney rates, even without DC. I have used AAA, DC and have rented points from DVC folks. OOOPs--this should probably be on the resorts board, BUT... I would still like to know what CC is!

Thanks!

Normally you can get good discounts onsite at Universal. Have you inquired about the AAA, Fan Club or Entertainment rate? Entertainment rates are typically the best rate, but I don't think they have been released for 2004 yet, so you may have to keep calling back.

Check out the Universal boards for more information at http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=75

Hope this helps!

As a UK DC member I'm not too happy about the CC - especially as we can't actually get the CC in the UK even if we wanted it :(

No, there will be no true replacement for the Disney Club. The credit card came about when Disney decided to make Visa the official card of WDW, and they came up will some incentives to make it more attractive. It is really in no way a replacement, as DC was open to anyone, and the Visa must be qualified for to receive it, and is not open to Disney's overseas guests.

We will miss your visits to WDW, NotUrsula, and sincerely hope that Universal will fill your needs and desires.

Universal's Fan Club (which operates the same way as the old MKC, free through employers) often offers excellent rates on hotels. We recently stayed at HR for $120.

I'm not going to give up on Disney or stop going to Disney parks. I still enjoy being at Disney, and I still think that Disney parks are the best all-around theme park experience. (I have switched over to only staying at S/D when onsite, however, because Starwood offers me very nice loyalty rewards.)

The management of and rewards from Universal's loyalty programs have improved in the last few years, while Disney has decided to marginalize and all but eliminate loyalty programs. Therefore, since I like being treated well for my dollar, I've simply been spending a larger share of that dollar at Universal than I did previously.

I do still own a fair amount of Disney stock, and I've been quite vocal about what I see as the company's failure in this regard. Loyalty programs drive a lot of purchases, including my own. Once the DC is gone, I sincerely doubt I will ever again set foot inside TDS, or whatever its successor might be.

I won't get the credit card. I refuse to get another one ever again. I have spent the last 10 years of my life mopping up credit issues from my college years. If I can't buy it out right, I don't need it. If it's something really special that I want, I will save for it and then buy it.

I would love for the Disney Club or something like it to return, but I will live without it too. Mickey

I got suckered into applying for the cc. I was hoping that it would be a true replacement for the DC. It is lame IMHO - I really dont care about earning "Disney Dollar Points" I have frequent flyer and hotel credit cards that I would rather earn on. I wanted something that could get me discounts on food and merchandise and hotel stays. So far the cc has not offered this except on some very specific and limited promotions.
I think it is a very lame program - I hope they will beef it up and make it more enticing as now it is not very attractive.

Thanks MickeyMagic and others, for your reply. I agree--when the CC came out I read about the "rewards" and decided DH and I get a lot more bang for our buck with our airline cards. We will just need to be diligent about AAA and other discounts to continue getting great deals at Disney.

Thanks for the info about Universal discounts--I will definitely be inquiring!

Same with Canadian residents ... I'm really hoping Disney comes out with something that its international visitors can use :(
