Are there members out there that use DVC as part of an investment?

I see some members with many points & I wonder how does someone get so many unless they want to rent them out.

Is this something that makes sense?

Looking at DVC as an investment and/or trying to make money renting points is a pretty tricky business. It might be possible and maybe some do it with success -- there's really no way to tell. However, there are many members who own quite a few points. They may spend several weeks in a 2 bedroom or larger at prime times, etc. Points can add up quickly. If they can't travel for a year or so, rental is a way for them to recoup some of their costs.

In my case, I bought alot of points because I like to take my whole family and several friends with me every other year plus a few short trips for DH and I. I wanted to add on more points to possibly rent out ontil I retire in a few years then use all the points as a winter getaway rather than have the expense of a second home. My first stab at this was ROFRED by disney so I will keep looking. Although I didn't buy as an investment back in 1999, it has turned out to be the best investment I've made bar none. Where else could you sell a timeshare for more than you paid for it and have had great vacations as well. Renting points is also the best way to go on a cruise or other destination because using your points for a trade are usually far more money than paying cash for same room. You can also trade points with another member to get the 11 month window...its a very flexible point system as long as you know all the rules and are good at planning. It works well for short notice trips but you have to happy to stay anywhere and not be unhappy if your first choice is gone. 1st come first served.

I am the baby out of 8 kids, yes catholic family & wish one of my older brothers or sisters had bought into DVC years ago & allowed us to visit more than we have on our own $.

Maybe I can start gathering points for our retirement & grandkids
