renting water mice

If you rent them at the Contemporary, Poly, GF, or WL you have a HUGE lake (two huge lakes actually) to run around in. At the YC the area is much smaller, but I guess it beats not being able to drive alone at all. If age isn't a factor then definitely go to one of the resorts where you can have a much bigger space.

407-WDW-Play and asked her the rules of the Sea Rays and she said 12yrs old and I said I had heard the rules were now 16 at some rental places and 12 at others and she said it was the same rule, straight across the board, 12yrs old.

Hmmm, maybe I should call again?

Thanks for the info, Mike. I think as long as my 13yr old can go by himself he wouldn't care where we are plus he won't know that there is a bigger lake he could've been on, hahahaha

Just back yesterday. I read the new licensed driver rules on this forum before we left. We found out that unlicensed drivers can rent water mice at Downtown Disney (next to Capn Jack's) and at Beach Club (my 12 and 15 year olds rented there). Apparently the boat's are "slower". I rented a mouse with my 5 year old and they seemed pretty peppy to me. Nice thing about renting at Yacht Club was being able to ride over to MGM--just watch out for the water taxis!! We were also told younger drivers can rent at Coronado Springs as well. I wasn't aware they had a marina.

My DS16 drove a water mouse all by himself 3 years ago when he was only 13 and did fine. We rented from the Grand Floridian. When we stay at the Polynesian this September he'll be 3 weeks shy of getting his driver's license (at age 16 1/2). I wonder if they'll let him rent a water mouse with just a driver's permit? It's issued from the state and has his age on it....

That would be Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and Wilderness Campground have the new 16 year old rule.
