Renting speedboats in WDW

You can rent them at Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Downtown Disney. The smallest 2 seat boats are like $22 for 30 minutes and 36 for like an hour and the bigger boats are $36 for half an hour or something close to that.

We rented a boat at CBR...I'm not a boat expert so I'm not sure if you would call it a speedboat but it did cost around $36.00 for a half-hour.

we were thinking of renting those for our trip in Aug. Do you have to make reservations in advance? or can you just show up when you want to do it?

Also, where do they offer single rider boats to drive? and how old do you have to be?

FYI, there are TWO different HP sizes.
The boats at the 7 Seas Lagoon Resorts are larger HP and the renter MUST have a valid Driver's License to rent/drive these Sea Racers.
All Remaining Resorts (on smaller lakes) have a smaller HP engine and the driver's requirements are lesser, must be 12 years of age and at least 5 feet tall. An adult must signthe release form at the time of rental.
So, if you have a DL, then for sure rent at the Poly, the Grand, the Contemp, Wilderness Lodge, or Fort Wilderness for the fastest boats.
Pricing info I have is $22.53 per 1/2 hour, $30.05 per 45 min, and $35.68 per hour (all plus tax).

You do not need reservations. You can just show up whenever you want the boat.
We rented them on our last trip at the contemporary, and there were always plenty of boats.

we are thinking about doing this in early August as well. Not a speed boat though. Want to take the entire family of 7 and I believe there's a boat that holds 6 and one that holds 10. The bigger one I believe is like $42 for 30 minutes (not sure what the hour rate is).

Gregg,

Most resorts have Boston Whaler Montauks (6 passengers) $30.98 per 1/2 hour, and 20 foot Sun Tracker Pontoon Boats (10 passengers) $39.43 per 1/2 hour (all prices plus tax).

Hourly rates are usually just the 1/2 doubled.

You can usually rent these boats between 10am and 5pm.

Just to make sure I'm not getting wires crossed - do you mean a standard car driving license or a riverboat license (you can get both here in the UK)

Car Driver's License

When we stayed at BC in 1997, we rented speedboats from the BW/BC/YC "lagoon". Are they still available there?

Yes, but only at Bayside Marina at the yacht Club, the one marina serves all three resorts. (Crescent Lake and Crescent Creek)

How about the ones at DTD, do they have the smaller ones available there?
