Renting questions for a virgin!

My H and I separated last year and I've been left with the DVC, I can't really afford to take myself and the kids so will probably sell it eventually and pay a chunk off the mortgage BUT while it's still going up in value, I'm figuring keeping hold of it for a while longer and renting it out so it covers the dues makes sense?

So....

Am I mad? Part of me thinks I should just sell it and make my life easier?
Is renting a huge hassle?
How does it work? Do I just make the reservation in someone else's name?
What's the going rate, is it still $10 per point at BCV and what's the UK rate?
Chances of renting to someone else in the UK?

And if there are any other tips, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you

Hi.
I've asked a question or two on here and had not much in the way of replies.
I really think you should try the American side of the site under DVC Operations I think. It's a lot more active. It seems to me that renting out your points would be pretty easy. They actually seem to be going for $11-$13 now. I've just rented some myself for a holiday July 2007.
Good luck. :thumbsup2

Hello Jo, sorry to hear of your difficulties right now. I've read your thread on the US boards and the good advice you've been given already.

As you've already discovered, BCV points are going to be quite easy to rent out over there. I have only a little experience of renting but I do recall that gilld needed to rent her BCV points a few months ago and they went on the US rent/trade board but I think she said she lost quite a bit in the currency conversion side of things.

I would say the UK rate is negotiable just like the US rate ;)

I'll bet you're the only person on the UK boards hoping the pound will weaken against the dollar though :) (from the US thread!)

Very best of luck whatever you decide to do - I'd hate to have to make that decision.

Thanks both of you, I have had lots of great advice via PMs and the US board and have actually found someone who wants to rent them already :)

This nicely delays any permanent decisions for another year anyway!

I'm looking to rent for Oct 2007 if you have any left.

Hi Jo,
You will have no probs renting your points out but you will def find it easier to do it to UK Dissers rather than US, as you will be hit by extra bank charges otherwise. It takes longer to rent to UK Dissers (as there are fewer) but it is lots easier.

Regards,

I'm using Paypal, they don't charge to convert to £'s or to transfer the money into your account :)

Shame - 36 would do me fine - I only want 4 nights sun - thurs on Boardwalk
