We've stayed in DVC 1BRs a few times - first through Disney and a Disney travel agent, then I rented from an individual I found on (I think?) another board - I "googled" them a bit to make sure it was all on the up-and-up, and for Spring Break this year we're doing a split stay at BLT and BWV through The DVC Rental Store - I do miss the daily housekeeping, but for DH and I having the two rooms is really key to a good vacation! I think if you do your research (and especially when you're traveling during peak times) it can be a great deal. Good luck!

I just rented points for the first time 7 nights at Blt 4 at akv. So far so good very easy , quick and cheap - 10/point. Reservation for December.

DVC is Disney's version of a timeshare. The entire DVC resort is the timeshare, but sometimes some of the villas are rented out for cash by Disney Reservation Center for several reasons.

1 - DVC may own those points (they maintain about 5% of the villas at a resort to maintenance and other issues) and need the cash compensation.

2 - A member may have traded their points for a non-DVC Disney vacation and DVC needs to pay for that non-DVC Disney vacation.

3 - The points haven't been sold yet or have been purchased back by DVC or have been foreclosed on by DVC. So DVC has DRC sell them as a cash reservation.

The entire DVC resort is the timeshare and member fees pay for all the maintenance, salaries and supplies. And most times they are about 95% occupied at all times.

I have rented point for several DVC vacations through different DIS members on the DIS rent/trade thread and have had the most marvelous, magical experiences I recently set up April and August trips at Old Key West the same way For me, it is still cheaper to rent points at Old Key West than book a moderate even with a room discount I do verify the member's ownership on-line with the Orange County Comptroller site just for my own peace of mind Members can book the Magical Express and the Disney dining plan for you as well
