can anyone help me with the subject of renting points, my main question is when some one says for example the are renting 300 points at 8.75 a point is that all the cost involved or do u typically do like dvc and add closing costs etc. or is that 8.75 per point the bottom line the only costs except of course the cost of getting there and tickets......and so on

That is the price you would pay the owner per point to rent their points. There are typically no additional costs (unless an owner has a special fee - which I have never seen.)

BTW, closing costs with Disney refers to BUYING DVC points not renting them. You can not rent points thru Disney. You can reserve DVC accomodations with them but you would pay a $ per night rate just like any other hotel room.

just a nitpick, but you cannot technically "rent points." the points are useless to a nonowner. you actually are renting a DVC reservation owned by a DVC member.

(but the reservations are typically priced by how many points they use, thus people talk about "renting points." it's just not completely accurate.)

on a more practical note, i would recommend the [thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread] thread. hugely important information.

You would do that yourself through CRO. DVC members cannot book cash rooms for someone else.

This is correct, I had a renter split a reservation with a cash stay for a weekend night. They paid for a Studio through CRO, in their case they did not have to move. The hotel let them stay in the same room since they had another 6 days continuing after their one cash night between the two reservations.
If you book a cash stay, you are entitled to daily housekeeping.

If you book a cash stay through CRO (not DVC), you will get daily housekeeping for that part of your stay. But you might not get it unless you make sure you get it.

In most cases if someone advertises points for rent, say at $10/point, that is all you pay. However some may have an additional fee, maybe paying the paypal/credit card fee (usually 3%). Others will absorb that fee themselves, while still others may split it with the buyer.

You always need to clarify with the seller if there are any other charges.

The only other fee I can think of is if you have someone use their points at a non-DVC resort such as the Poly or Grand Floridian. In that case there may be a $75 fee they have to pay Disney and they would pass it on to you. Please note, it's really a bad idea to try to rent points to stay at a non-DVC resort.

Outside of the credit card/paypal fee, if anyone tries to charge you for something else, like a 'processing fee', I'd run away and find someone else.

I believe it is a $95 fee to book non-DVC resorts.
