I am renting points for a trip in late April. (30 days out). We have a 1BR villa at Wilderness Lodge Villas. The member that I am renting from was nice enough to put me on a waiting list for a 2BR at either WL, BCV, or BWV. Tonight I checked disney.com and it now shows a 2BR available at BCV for my dates. Does that mean it's available to reserve with points also? I would think, yes, since we're just 30 days out. Should I call the DVC member and ask him to check for me, or are the "waitlists" pretty reliable? I hate to badger the DVC member, but would LOVE to upgrade to the 2BR.

Any advice would be helpful. We're strongly considering buying into DVC. Hope this trips convinces dh!!

Disney.com is a cash reservation, it has nothing to do with DVC points reservations. Two totally different reservation systems. I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
Waitlists are iffy. I have had one for 9 months. It all just depends. I would think for for yours to come through at this late date, someone has to cancel a Two bedroom, their points will go into holding. It would have to be some sort of emergency. It could happen, but not good for the person that it happens to.

Once I did have a waitlist filled within the 30 day window. It was for a one bedroom at VWL.

Sorry, I feel really ignorant about this...Does that mean that Disney will leave a room empty rather than allow a DVC owner/renter to accommodate it if it's not a "cash" reservation (not reserved through "their" system)?? I thought the villas were built for DVC and are also available to the public for "cash"? So, they just allocate a certain percentage to DVC members? If I were an owner, I would hope to have access to a DVC room if it's available. It's confusing to me. I need to do my research...Thanks for the info.

Yes, they will leave a room empty. But it depends upon why it was a cash room.

If the room was part of the points retained by Disney, developers points turned over to cash or was turned over to cash because a DVC members traded points to the Disney Collection of non-DVC resorts, they can not be reclaimed for points, as technically they are already reserved on points. So it will sit empty.

If the room was turned over to cash as part of breakage inventory, because it was not reserved at 60 days out by points, then it could possibly be reclaimed for point use, but this is a very small percentage of cash rooms.

The majority of cash rooms results from member trades, and those can't be reclaimed.

Many waitlists do come through at the 30 day mark. It is possible that your owner hasn't checked the members' website and doesn't know about it yet. MS doesn't call and it takes quite a while for the confirmation letter to arrive in the regular mail. The website is real time - it will show the new reservation as soon as MS makes it (assuming the waitlist worked).

It wouldn't hurt to give the owner a call and ask him/her to check. If your owner is willing, ask if he/she will confirm with MS that you are still on the waitlist. At the 31 day mark, waitlists are canceled unless the owner requests to stay on it. (That rule has to do with the holding account, but since you will be using more points, it won't matter).

At 7 days all waitlists are canceled and an owner would have to call every so often and hope to get lucky. Your owner may or may not be willing to do that.

Good luck -hope it works out for you.

Well, My 9 month waitlist has just come through! I checked the DVC member web site and there it was. It cleared on the 22nd. My son got married Saturday, so I have not checked things recently. This was for a Concierge Studio! I am excited. I had just about given up hope!:goodvibes
