Renting Points Questions

Hi All,

Just a quick question for you experts. I'm looking at renting points for a stay at BCV (or BWV) in November for my family and my sister and her kids. Problem is, we'd need a two-bedroom, and that's a lot of points to get from one person.
I seem to get the idea from lurking/reading extensively here that when renting, ALL points must come from one DVC owner; is that correct? Could we not split the reservation into, say, two three-night stays, one booked by each of two different owners, and just attempt to have CRO or member services or whomever link the reservations together. I would guess that we'd have to check-out and back in, at the very least, and may even have to switch units, but that doesn't seem like too terrible of an inconvenience.
Also, I assume that if we can do things this way, we can still get the Dining Plan, as we would just add it for all three days on both reservations.

Any advice, help, or answers that any of you fine folks here can give me will be greatly appreciated---and thanks in advance!!!

The members who own the points would have to give the information to MS to link the reservations. If it was possible. You never know.

Find a member with enough points to make the entire reservation. That would be the easiest.

With different members, you would have to check out, check back in, new room IDs each time. New parking pass. If you have your tickets on your room ID, you'd have to keep the first one with the tickets.

Yes, you can rent from more than 1 owner. But I doubt that would be necessary. Renting from one owner is complicated enough, especially if you have never rented points before, why get more owners involved than absolutely necessary. A week (7 nights) at BCV in a 2 bedroom villa during Thanksgiving week takes 312 points. For many owners/members on this board who rent some of their excess points - 300, 400 or even 500 points aren't really that many points and they could easily manage a rental for you.

Reality is some owners (myself included) only rent to families like you who need a large number of points. I now only respond to ads requesting 300 points or more. Larger rentals are no more complicated and take no more time to manage than a small rental.

My advice - I would post my request on the Rent/Trade as soon as you have the details of your vacation set and wait for replies. Good luck.

Others have given you very good advice on the mechanics of renting. One caution, however.

Be sure you understand the significant differences between cancelling a cash reservation and a DVC reservation...particularly in light of your plan to book for a second family. If something changes your sister's plans, your options may be very limited. No matter how accommodating the owner wants to be, they may not be able to help you change plans.

You might want to look at a one-bedroom and a studio, or two one-bedrooms. With two units, if somebody's plans change, that change won't mess up YOUR arrangements. (And you'll also have more privacy.)
