Hey guys,
We are renting points and wanted to know if I could submit my room request through TouringPlans or does the owner have to submit my request? TIA!!

You can try. AFAIK, the TouringPlans requests go directly to the resort.

Best bet is through the DVC owner because the request will be attached to the reservation. Calling and touring plans requests may or may not be considered depending on resort policy and the room assigner working that day.

For that matter, a request on your reservation may or may not be considered depending on resort policy and the room assigner working that day. I've had horrible luck over fifteen years.

Even the best room assigner can't match a request if a room that will satisfy the request isn't vacated on your check in day.

Yeah, I'm beyond that point. I'm at "high floor" at the Boardwalk (which I think would be forth or fifth) and get second floor. You can't tell me that none of the high floor rooms were vacated that day. I'm not even adding "close to elevator" to that request. I don't bother any longer, since they've met a request ONCE.

Think about it. If you make a request, there is a chance someone might notice it. However, if you don't make a request, there is no chance someone would know about it. I have only had one experience with DVC (it was a rental) and I pretty much got the complete opposite of my requests (assuming they were indeed made by the owner I was renting from). I realize you have a pretty poor batting average (once out of however many times you have been there in 15 years) right now, but you might have better luck in the next 15 only if you make the requests!

I've had much better luck getting awesome rooms with no request at all. I've been disappointed with requesting, and delighted when I haven't requested. I'll stick to no requests. (Most of our stays are at BW, but the only disappointing room location with no request was BCV - and we did get the "Epcot View" (which I think of as the road view, but a lot of people do like and request those rooms). But we had a good room at VWL - overlooking the lake, high up enough to see through the trees. We had a spectacular room at HHI - and we've had great rooms at BWV with no request - usually high floor :))

What happens when you arrive, get your room assignment, and ask the front desk people about a change? Still no help?

The pool of possible rooms dwindles as the day goes on. Once online check in guests are notified of their room number, those rooms are gone, any guests who front desk checked in, those rooms are gone. There are so many rooms that can be taken from one guest and given to another. In addition, once you open the room door you might have to pay for a full cleaning if you request to move.

Problem is most people make that request. I always request top floor with boardwalk view, mostly get 3 or 4, only once got 2.

I've requested low floor (to make it easier to take the stairs) and have ended up on the fifth floor! The problem is that the room assigners at BWV don't care about requests.

And when I've asked for a change, I'm always told "that is the room available to you" - very nicely, but I've never had someone say "let me look for something else." I check in between 11am and 1pm.

Now, other people have had good luck with their BWV room requests. I haven't found them to be useful at all. And since I've never had a bad room at a DVC resort (I'm pretty easy to keep happy), there isn't any use in setting myself up for disappointment when the request isn't met.

Since it became a separate category, I always reserve boardwalk view. My biggest fear is getting one of those rooms on the first floor between Big River and Jellyrolls. People right outside on the boardwalk. I'm happy with anything else.

We do either BW or Standard View. And, yeah, I wouldn't want a first floor room on the Boardwalk. But, frankly, except for those rooms pretty much anything on the BW side is good. The higher floors tend to have better views of the fireworks and less noise, but to balance that, the lower floors make using the stairways easier. Similar with how close you are to the lobby - farther away the views are better and I think the noise is a little less (Jellyrolls gets loud, but you don't have the boat and Village Green noise), closer in and you have the convenience of being close. I think Standard View has similar pluses and minuses to where you end up - and both work sort of on a slider, so the compromise room is the middle floor in the middle of the building - not awesome in any single respect, but then again, lacking the disadvantages of the extremes.
