Renting points not allowed?

I'm a DVC member, and this is the first year that we cannot use all of our points. I have been trying to rent them out, but it's been such a hassle.

Two separate parties have cancelled AFTER I made the ressie. I called to cancel the second ressie and commented about renters cancelling-- the woman told me I was not allowed to rent out my Disney points and she would not make me a ressie for that purpose.
Is this true? Why is it forbidden when an entire board is dedicated to just that?

There are ways to minimize your risk and aggravation. First, set your terms and stick to them. Don't be flexible unless you have a reason to be such as distressed points. Try to only rent current use year points and only early in your use year to give you options. Don't even call for availability unless you have an agreement in principle including dates, price and commitment. Don't bank or borrow points unless you're sure you will use them in some way and preferably only after you receive an appropriate payment if it's for a rental. Keep your terms simple but clear. If you use escrow, make sure YOU are comfortable with it and require the renter to pay it upfront. Also set the release of funds based on the completion of the reservation not the completion of the trip itself.

What are the specifics on the points (2006 or 2007, UY, resort?) I may be interested in a transfer.

Thanks anyway. My DH and I have decided to take our kids in August. We don't usually like to go at that time, but I would rather do that than lose the points.

I don't think I will be trying to rent points again- partly because of the hassle, but mostly because we love to go to Disney. I will just have to find the time.
