Just got back and we are now planning for our trip in Feb 2004.
It will be 6 adults and 3 kids. I am curious about renting points and how it works. I would appreciate any help. We have annual passes also. Any advice on where we should stay?:p

Hi!
We are renting points for the first time for our up coming trip this Nov. I saw a post on the rent/trade board from someone renting. I e-mailed him with my dates, preferred resort, actually I gave 3 options. Gave my name, and amount of people and their ages who will be traveling with me. He is charging me $9.50 per point which is less than the going rate of $10. I knew the amount of points I needed by using the calculator on these boards. My 2nd choice was available, BWV studio preferred view. He booked it in my name, e-mailed me with the conf.# and phone# to confirm it. We agreed as soon as I received a copy of the conf. I would then mail him half the amount due with a money order. The balance is due 30 days before the trip. I got lucky dealing with a great person, good communication, and easy to work with. Different people might do it alittle different as far as the amount due and when.
With the amount of people in your party, you would need a 2 bedroom unit which sleeps 8 and a child under 3 in a crib. Is there a child under 3 in your party. If not, then the amount exceeds the amount allowed by Disney. You might be better off getting a 2 bedroom and studio? With 6 adults, you'll want lots of room and some privacy, right?
We chose the BWV because of the Decor and location. On our last trip we were at the BWI. We love it.

How it works? - Basically, you wander over to the Rent/Trade board and make a post asking to rent points for your dates and asking to be informed of what the DVC member is charging.

Where you should stay? - Basically you have 4 choices on site: Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, Old Key West or Wilderness Lodge Villas. Those are all DVC properties. Renting points to stay at a regular Disney hotel is a waste of your money. The points for those are worse than paying cash

NOTE: Check the age on your youngest. A DVC 2 bedroom holds 8 plus a child UNDER 3. DVC is pretty strict on the occupancy, and most members won't risk breaking rules when they are renting to strangers. If your youngest is under 3 you can get a 2 bedroom. Otherwise you need to ask for a 3 bedroom (called a Grand Villa - pretty hard to get, but maybe less demand in January) or get two 2 bedrooms, or a 2 bedroom and a studio.

DVC members can reserve 11 months out at there "home" resort and 7 months out at the others. You are approximately 8 months out, so it's time to start working on it

It takes a certain number of points per night, depending on the time of year, to rent a studio, one bed, two bed, or grand villa, as a DVC member. Some members, for various reasons, choose to rent out some of their points. They usually rent for $10.00/point, although you may find some variation to this. During the "value" season, a studio standard view at the boardwalk would require 9 points per night Sun-Thurs, so this would cost you approx $90/night (no taxes). However, Friday and Saturday nights are MUCH more - 20 points per night for a studio. The one bedroom would be 16 points per night for 2004/value season (thus $160/night) and 41pts/night on Fri/Sat. The two bed - 24pts/nt - and 51pts/nt on Fri/Sat. Most people will find an off property hotel for Friday and Sat stays. The points I've given you are the lowest points of the year and will increase with each designated "season". Points also vary with the DVC resort you choose. If you go during a "low points" season, this is really an outstanding deal for the facilities that you get. And compared to what you would pay thru Disney for the same room, it is a great deal at any time of the year.

I have looked extensively into renting points, but have not had the opportunity yet. However, I talked our friends into it and they just got back from their stay at the Boardwalk and they loved it! They got luxury accomodations for a few $$ more a night than they would have paid at the All Stars. The only thing they weren't crazy about was the lack of maid service. You can pay extra for daily maid service, but some people actually prefer not having it. They still said that they would rent points again in a heartbeat, and they loved the location.

Go to disneyvacationclub.com and click on Resorts to get layouts of the rooms/etc. Good luck!

I wanted to add that you could rent two studios for less than the cost of a 2 bed; or you could rent two 1 beds for a little more than a 2 bed, but you might be more comfortable splitting the party up that way.

Thanks for all the helpful info. We now are a party of 8 adults and 3 kids. I am working hard on trying to get the best rate and the most comfortable accomadations for all. They have left it all up to me. But I will again enjoy planning another great trip for me and my family members.:p It did not take me long to start the countdown once again. My husband thinks I am completly nuts. We were just there in June. Thanks again for the help;)
