It takes a certain number of points per night, depending on the time of year, to rent a studio, one bed, two bed, or grand villa, as a
DVC member. Some members, for various reasons, choose to rent out some of their points. They usually rent for $10.00/point, although you may find some variation to this. During the "value" season, a studio standard view at the boardwalk would require 9 points per night Sun-Thurs, so this would cost you approx $90/night (no taxes). However, Friday and Saturday nights are MUCH more - 20 points per night for a studio. The one bedroom would be 16 points per night for 2004/value season (thus $160/night) and 41pts/night on Fri/Sat. The two bed - 24pts/nt - and 51pts/nt on Fri/Sat. Most people will find an off property hotel for Friday and Sat stays. The points I've given you are the lowest points of the year and will increase with each designated "season". Points also vary with the DVC resort you choose. If you go during a "low points" season, this is really an outstanding deal for the facilities that you get. And compared to what you would pay thru Disney for the same room, it is a great deal at any time of the year.
I have looked extensively into renting points, but have not had the opportunity yet. However, I talked our friends into it and they just got back from their stay at the Boardwalk and they loved it! They got luxury accomodations for a few $$ more a night than they would have paid at the All Stars. The only thing they weren't crazy about was the lack of maid service. You can pay extra for daily maid service, but some people actually prefer not having it. They still said that they would rent points again in a heartbeat, and they loved the location.
