Hi,
I thought that I remembered reading in the newsletter that members can now rent extra points directly from disney, but now I cannot find anything on their site. I tried to do a search also, but only saw regular rental questions. Is this an option? If so, can someone either give me some details or point me in the right direction where I can find more info? Thanks!!

You can purchase up to 24 one-time-use points for $15/point. Full details on the member website under Vacation Planning > Making Reservations > One-Time-Use Vacation Points.

Thanks! I need more than that though, and I'm just too worried about renting from a stranger. Oh well... thanks again for the info!

You might want to check out the rent/trade section. A transfer from another member is not too risky. You would just need to make sure the points you are getting would work for the time you are traveling.

Alternatively, you could do part of your trip on points and part on cash. I think I have seen threads about that on these boards. I almost think I have read that MS can help with this kind of reservation. Maybe someone with some experience doing this can comment.

It is done at 7 months or less and you can only purchase the amount of points needed at the time you are making the reservation with MS so let's say if you needed 17pts to either use on their own or to combine with points you own to book one or more extra nights for your trip then MS will reserve & charge your credit card for 17 points in that very same call. You are allowed to purchase up to 24 points per UY and can't borrow or bank these points like you can do with your own points.

Before doing this transaction ask MS what the Member's cash rate would be for the night you want to book because sometimes 25% Member's Discount may be available and that may cost you less $ compared to point purchase.

Best wishes :goodvibes

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this - Why not try David's Vacation Club Rentals (dvcrequest.com)? He sponsors the Rent/Trade forum and only charges $13 a point (his link is at the top of the Rent/Trade board). You would be able to rent more points through him (his minimum is 44) and it seems more secure. Plus you are using a business that helps keep the boards running. :)

I looked at his site briefly, but is it the same as with any renting, you're at the mercy of the owners? I'm sure most transactions go smoothly, but I would be so stressed that mine would not!

I rent my excess points fairly often (not in the business, just can't use my points always due to other vacations/committments). You are right, it is based on trust. However, you can get a "feel" for a renter by checking references, asking for a contract (which can protect you AND the renter) and seeing how long they have been on the boards. I have never had any problems at all. It's a bit like being on eBay. You need to check the "feedback" and do a little homework and have some faith in the goodness of people...
