Has anybody else noticed that there is an overwhelming quatity of people trying to rent points vs people trying to actually rent them. This morning I looked at page 1 on the rent/trade board and all but 4 posts were for points for rent. I posted points a few days ago for rent and usually I get at least 5 emails a day from people looking......so far I've received zero. Maybe this year I'll try a large transfer....

With the economy in the tank, there are such awesome travel deals to Orlando and Disney that the I think the risk and restrictions of renting points is not really worth it for most people. All the bouncebacks, free dining, buy 4, get three nights free make it cheaper to travel through CRO right now.

We are staying at WDW the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before Christmas at a resort where I'll get daily housekeeping and EMH benefits - and it was 60 bucks a night. I could not have touched that with a point rental.

part of me is folk like me that advertise the rent board - well I haven't been doing it lately - neither have many of the others.

some of the people on the resort boards are new and don't know about renting points.

don't think it is right for me to rent points these people so send them to the rental/trade board here.

since been spending my time else where - haven't been mentioning it.

besides the new Disney WDW resort discount is hard to match - pay for 4 days and 3 free - plus the tickets.

that is pretty hard to compete with - unless they have to have a bigger place.

Members can't afford to travel so they are renting out their points. Non-members can't afford to travel so there are no renters.

We are at WDW right now and we have never seen it so slow. 30 minute standby for Soarin and 20 for Test Track. Some of the food booths are closed because they cut Cast Member hours. :sad1:

I know, we just got back Friday from a 10 day stay and rarely had to wait long in any line. We ran into one of the big cheeses at MK and talked to him about business......he said park attendance was down 15% but it seemed much more than that to us.

Wow, when we were there in late October for MNSSHP it was packed, almost as bad as spring break.

You might want to look beyond Page 1 on the Rent/Trade Board. True, most of the threads currently there are "Points for Rent", but if you look beyond that page the number of "Reservation Wanted" and Reservation for Rent" threads increases greatly. Most of the threads on the first page have been regularly "bumped" by a member motivated to try to rent their points while many of the threads on the next 4 pages have not been as actively bumped - sometimes just due to the inexperience of those posters.

Thank Doc.......I guess it just seemed that there were more renters than rentees. When I browse the R/T Boards I rarely if ever venture to page 2 and never 3 and 4.

Yep several of my friends who work for Disney have had their hours cut back. And another sign that attendance is down is that Disney added additional discounted days to MVMCP for DVC members. Any time they add additional days for discounts, it is a sure sign tickets are not selling.

We were there in mid-October and it was very crowded then also, over 90 minute waits for Soarin, Toy Story Mania, etc. Wow, what a difference a month can make.

Totally agree...why would someone want to fork over a couple of grand to someone they don't know when they can book even DVC rooms through CRO at a massive discount right now? Oh well perhaps it will cut down on the number of threads berating people who don't charge enough per point. ;)

Here are the effective 7-night room rates (under the 7-for-4 promotion) for a couple of DVC rooms, and the point totals they require, both during CRO's Peak Season (which is generally Magic for DVC):

BCV 1BR: $2,677/270 points ($9.88/pt)
SSR 2BR: $3,555/316 points ($11.25/pt)

So, these are already in line with current rental rates. But, WDTC has more generous cancellation terms, and provides daily mousekeeping. The savings for the renter just aren't there.

There are other room types where there's still some benefit, but even there the value proposition for the renter just isn't what it was.
