Renting DVC points

Anyone got tips on renting DVC points? Like do’s and dont’s.
Tips:
  • Start your quest for a rental early. Owners can book their home resort as early as 11 month out. They can book non-home resorts as early as 7 months out.
  • Check the Orange County (Florida) Comptroller's website for deed records to confirm ownership if their home resort is in WDW.
  • TALK to the owner. Get a phone number and actually speak to them.
  • Ask for references. But be aware that references can be faked, so do not rely solely on them.
  • Insist on a written contract with the terms of the rental spelled out including payment terms, refunds and the owner's willingness to make changes.
  • Be flexible with your choice of resorts and dates. Smaller, near-park resorts book up early, especially for studios.
  • Be open to a split stay whereby you stay at 2 or more resorts during your vacation because no single resort is available for all of your nights.
  • Do not respond to unsolicited messages. Report them to the board administrators. Scammers can comb the boards for potential renters and then contact them via private message.
  • Be patient. Availability changes frequently, especially at 7 months out when owners can use their points anywhere and tend to switch up their reservations.

Remember, if you choose to try to rent points through our Rent/Transfer Board that you will need at least 10 Non-Rent/Transfer board posts to activate your Conversation (Private Messaging) ability for anyone other than DISBoard staff, and that personal info, such as name, phone, email address, and so forth, can not be shared on the public forums, only through Private Message.
