Renting DVC points

...DVC is a property that you can check in the public records - http://www.occompt.com/ . Go to "Record Search" and verify that the deed is on record. Put in the person's first and last name in the "Either Party" section and you will be able to see their DVC Deed.

Not every owner will be listed there. If they own a property not in Orange County FL, they will not be there. So owners at Vero Beach, Hilton Head Island, Villas at Grand Californian or Aulani won't be there.

To interested renters: read the stickies at the top of the Rent/Trade Board. Do not respond to Private Messages or E-mails from someone you did not contact. The webmasters are advising people not to do that because there have been some people burned by renting this way.

Owners will set their own terms for payment. Some may require full payment once the reservation is made. Others may allow partial payments. Most will want full payment no later than 45 to 60 days out.

If you decide you want to add the dining plan, it must be paid in full to add it to the reservation. Paypal cannot be used to rent a timeshare per Paypal rules.

You need to plan well ahead of time. For example, it will be very hard to find nearly anything between Oct 1 and mid-January 2013.

Well we are doing it. I got a confirmation last night that the resort we wanted was available. I'm just waiting for the agreement and final payment information to make sure it's 100% done. :cool1:

Thank you to everyone here for listening and providing great feedback!!!!

Did you decide on a 1 bedroom or studio. Either way we hope you have a MAGICAL TRIP and you will have to let us all know how it went. :thumbsup2

We went with the studio. I'm just waiting for confirmation that we got it. I hope so. I have my heart set on BLT, but it will happen if its meant to be.

Wow after reading all of these it really makes me think that I should do this for out trip next October. Thanks for all the info so far.

We're paying $11/point. The number of points required for your stay varies with time of year you're traveling. You can check with David's site to get a sense of how many points you'll need to rent.

We rented points for our May trip and now we are doing the same for our September trip. We used DVC Rental store. Paul was wonderful to work with. We will definitely be doing this more often when planning our trips to WDW. Can't beat staying at a deluxe for typically the price of a moderate.

I have used David's to book 2 studio villas for 7 nights at the BW in Sept. The cost was 988.00 per studio. I just went to Disneys site and the cost to book 1 studio at the BW for the same time period would cost 2717.00. (the POFQ is 1404.00 and POP is 798.00) I went with David and paid a couple of dollars more because I felt it would give me more piece of mind. I go to the Disney early check-in about every week and so far I still have reservations. I do not use ME or the DDP and not having daily housekeeping does not bother us at all. At this point, all I see is we are getting to stay at a deluxe resort for 7 nights for 190.00 more that it would cost to stay at POP. :cool1: :cool1:

That is exactly why we did this. We never knew about renting points until I scoured the boards. We are still kicking around the idea of purchasing DVC ourselves.

Renting is definitely the gateway drug to owning. ;) Glad everything worked out so well for you!

I looked into DVC renting points a while ago and thought it was expensive?!? What is the price range per night?

With four kids, you would need a two bedroom at a minimum, unless the youngest is still under the age of three. Then you might fit in a BLT, OKW or AKV (not Value Villa) one bedroom that sleeps five plus one under the age of three. Even a two bedroom on points will probably be more expensive than two value rooms or even a family suite.

You will never get two studios that connect and they might not be close to each other. So you'll pretty much need a two bedroom villa with six in your family.

I wish I would have known about renting points when we were paying OOP for AKL. Of course if I would have known about it we might have bought DVC a lot sooner than we did, which wouldn't have necessarily been a bad thing. :goodvibes

Yeah...this is why we won't rent....for our family it is still much cheaper to stay in a family suite.

Here is the site I use to verify DVC ownership:

http://or.occompt.com/recorder/web/login.jsp

You do not have to be a registered user, just click the "I acknowledge" box and plug in the information :thumbsup2

That site is only good for owners who own in Orange County. If they own Vero Beach, Hilton Head Island, Villas at Grand Californian or Aulani, they won't show up there.
