I have never rented points but did look into. For the resort I wanted (Bay Lake Towers), at the time we needed (value), and room category (two-bedroom), it was less expensive per night, based on all the calculators/advice offered on the Dis to use Disney's general public room-only discount to book, and that way we get to reserve with one night deposit, daily housekeeping and direct information with Disney.
Just something to check up front, since I learned that renting points isn't ALWAYS the least expensive villa option.
