Renting DVC points

I need a little info if anyone can help. I saw a thread somewhere about renting DVC points. We were thinking of doing that since we can stay in a better place for a reasonable price when we have our DFTW. Has anyone done this before? How did you like it? How does it work? Could we stay at multiple resorts? :confused3 I don't really know anything. :lmao: Could someone please help?!?! TIA!!!

We rented DVC points for our honeymoon and stayed at 2 different resorts, plus 2 other resorts where we didn't rent points. It worked really well for us, but we were fortunate to find someone we could trust who charge a fair price for points. It takes a lot of trust on the part of both the owner and the renter.

This question comes up a lot, so I've written up a little primer on it, here:

Most of your best info is going to come from the DIS Boards' Rent/Trade Board, which has a tutorial here:

I saw this link from the DVC main board. Is this a honest place to rent from, or should I research individuals myself? I understand I could probably get the points a little cheaper if I did research myself, but wouldn't it be easier to let this David guy do it? :rotfl: Or is that like throwing our money away? :confused3

We really like the option of renting so we can stay at a better place since we want to be at Disney for 10 days during our DFTW.

:goodvibes

It seems like people on the DIS have had good experiences with him. His prices are higher than most, and he has a minimum number of points you have to rent. Also, for his last-minute deals, you can only stay at SSR. But if he can get you into the resort you want and you're OK with the price, it seems like renting through him would be easier and more trust...able (?) than trying to find someone yourself of the Rent/Trade board.

I have rented twice from DIS members on the rental/trade boards, the first lady I rented from had a great contract that would protec both the owner and the rentee and makes sure all the info and payment and cancellation terms are understood and agreed upon. I also pay through PAYPAL to double insure myself.
Both times have been great experiences ,and we got to stay in a great 1 bedroom (privacy) and washer/dryer ,jet tub and full kitchen are great!
You will definitly get a better deal trying to do it yourself.

There is also a guy on Facebook who charges 11/point. I was able to get 3 nights at OKW in November during food and wine festival for a 1 bedroom for like 900, that is a savings of well over a hundred dollars PLUS you get much better accommodations..

He accepts money through pay pal as well....

I've rented once before a couple of years ago from someone I found on the boards here. I have a rental in progress right now for this coming November. I loved when we stayed at OKW and this time we are staying at BCV to be close to EPCOT for the food and wine festival. I would just acquaint yourself with the rental boards and ask for references if you feel uncomfortable! I wouldn't pay more than $10/point though.

I am so happy to hear you liked OKW, that is where my parents will be staying when we go there..I am currently waiting to see if my RCI trade in will work and if not I will also be purchasing DVC points as it is soooo much more worth it then buying a hotel room through Disney!

We loved the theming and all the Jimmy Buffett music they play, lol. It was so quiet and we loved the quiet pools as opposed the crowded chaos of most resort's main pools. Also, we were on a ground floor overlooking a big pond with a fountain and one morning we had baby ducks on our patio...too cute!
