Renting car from the Port to MCO

Hi! So we're thinking of doing private transportation from our resort to the cruise on embarkation day as we like to get to port early. On the day we leave we booked a late flight home ~7pm. So were thinking of maybe seeing Cape Canaveral before heading to airport. As such would need to rent a car. Any hints or tips on good rental companies to use to do 1-way from PC to MCO?? Also what time should I indicate I need to pick up the rental car? Any other useful info would be welcomed as we're travelling with two kids as well and don't want it to be too chaotic at the end. TIA!!

We used Budget and have no complaints. We chose to do express walk off and miss our MDR breakfast (so we could make it back to WDW with our APs before we had to go to MCO) and we had been shuttled from the port and in our rental car by 8:00am. Someone else can probably comment with more accurate timing if you don't do express walk off, but I still highly recommend Budget!

I rented last year through Costco travel and got a full size SUV for $26 to the port with Alamo and for around $50 for the same thing from Budget for the trip back to MCO. I think the rental agencies open at 8 am (or that is when the shuttles start). I always put 8 am and try to get there as early as possible to beat the crowds and it has worked on my 3 cruises. We always walk off with our luggage and have found it to be a very easy process, if you stop for breakfast you just leave your bags at the restaurant entrance.

We've used Avis the last two cruises. I get a discount from my employer. It was really easy. We had early dinner, so early breakfast the last day and picked up the car around 8am.
