Im thinks by of renting a car for a day trip from WDW to UO. Forty dollars for twenty four hours. I have preferred AP so parking is free. Does this make sense or am I missing something? I figure we can get car and go over for the evening. Next morning, head over for early entry and the day. Drop car off after we finish up at U.

What sort of hours should I expect third week October?

I'd personally just do Uber or Lyft. No time wasted dealing with picking up or returning the car nor any parking, just simple door to door service for pretty much the same price.

I'd thought that. The car is only $40. Can I get round trip transportation for five over two days for that price?

My favorite thing about renting a car is getting a chance to hit a Publix or Walmart on the way back to save money on some food for the rest of the trip

You can get fare estimates here https://www.uber.com/fare-estimate/
Your rental car will be cheaper (I didn't realize you needed 4 trips vs 2, I could still be wrong!) or that you'd need XL.
I'd still likely go Uber because of the time savings.
Yes I need (or want, I guess) 4 trips. Thought we'd rent the car in the afternoon, go to UO for afternoon and evening (about 3 on). Head home to Boardwalk. Next morning, hit early entry (I have preferred AP so we get early entry and free parking). Spend the day. And now that someone mentioned it, hit Publix on way back to return car 24 h later.

I like simple

Uber would be my choice

No down time for parking in the garage, or filling up a gas tank when rental is returned
Or time getting back to your hotel when you return a car rental

Sometimes the additional cost of uber is worth it for the convenience

does all in your group have the ap for EE ?

No. Hubby doesn't. He will probably just get a coffee while we do early entry. Then we will meet up with him. He doesn't have the AP. Never upgraded him since he thought he wouldn't be back within the year. Then Disney APs got even pricier and we decided to skip WDW again in October. I'll buy him a two day park to park using my AP discount.
