Renting/cancelling

I'm hoping to rent points. I realize I would have to book that at the 11month window. But, what if I've paid for these points and then had to cancel or change the reservation. Would I lose my money?

It would be up to the owner whom you contract to rent a reservation in terms of the cancelation policy.

But, many have one so be sure that you understand everything up front.

It's up to the member to determine a cancellation policy. But most have no cancellation policy other than No Cancellations, No Refunds. Their points have a shelf life and cancelling may make them unusable.

It's not like making a reservation directly through Disney and cancelling. DVC points are limited and there might not be any other reservations available when the points are still able to be used.
