Renting both a scooter and a car?

My mother and I have taken several trips to Disney World together, and typically we rent a scooter for her for the duration of the trip and utilize the bus system.

We would like to try renting a car on our next trip as we may be making some stops outside of the World.

However, we would also still require the rental of a scooter.

Has anyone rented both? Are there any models of scooters to rent that break down easily to be stowed into a car? Do we need to rent a van that is scooter accessible with a ramp? Should we rent a regular car and then try renting a scooter at the park every morning and drop it off before leaving? (She is able to walk short distances for short periods of time)

I am just wondering if trying to rent scooters and cars are mutually exclusive. Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks in advance for any input. :goodvibes

Renting a car and scooter is a doable option. I have a Pride Go-Go Elite Traveler 3 wheel scooter that fits into the trunk of a Ford Fusion easily. It will fit in the trunk of a Ford Mustang, but I don't recommend that. I know that Apple Scooter rents the same scooter I have, so if you rent one of them from them and get say a midsize or larger car you will be fine.

Any of the GO GO scooters come apart very easily with the heaviest part weighing about 40 pounds. Also, you can take the battery in to charge each night without taking the entire scooter in.

Tell the people you are renting from that you need to be able load it into the trunk of the car and they will make sure you get the right kind. Also ask for instructions on how to assemble and dis-assemble, they can probably just copy those pages out of the user manual. It's really very easy -- I have no problem taking my Go-Go Elite Plus apart and loading it into the trunk of my Hyundai. The only thing I would be concerned about is that the ECVs you rent usually have much larger baskets, which may cause problems. (But they come in VERY handy.)

The battery will be heavy, probably about 30-35 lbs, and you will need to take it into the room each night to re-charge, although you can leave the rest of the scooter there. You may want to get a little folding luggage dolly to carry it back and forth. Also, there will not be a lot room in the trunk for other things, but you can fit back packs or tote bags around here and there.

But something else to keep in mind is that the Go Go scooters are more 'size' restrictive. They are designed more for the average or smaller sized person. 'larger' sized person(s) will wear out the charge on the battery faster. I'm only trying to share all of the facts here...just so you know the pros and cons. :)

While this is true to a point, if you are close to the weight limit on the scooter, you could have troubles with a GO-GO, but unless you are above 250 lbs, you should be fine. My Go Go Elite Traveler scooter has a weight limit of 300lbs. The HD version goes to 325lbs. I am a larger person (over 200lbs), and have never had trouble with my scooter, and I have put it thru things that the average Disney traveler will never do.
