Renting Availability Aulani vs WDW DVC

Looking into possibly renting through David's DVC for a Aulani trip summer of 2018 (when available) since we have always had success using him for our WDW rentals. My question is regarding the Standard hotel rooms at Aulani. Is the chance of availability for these comparable to trying to score a value studio at AKL Jambo? Just wondering if the standard hotel rooms are few and hard to get like the value studios, if that makes sense. Also what would be an ideal time to try and book that type of room (how many months out)?

I believe only 5 hotel rooms are available for points. They go very fast, as do most units for the summer time. Try to find an owner at Aulani so you can book at 11 months.

The hotel room is a bit of a unicorn because they are so few. You actually have a better chance at AKV Value.

LOL that's quite depressing but what I was afraid of

If you want a hotel room (or standard view studios) for any time of year you need to book 11 months out; not as bad as AKV value where rooms often disappear right at 8 a.m., but you cannot assume they will last long once the window opens.
