Renting an RV?

Does anyone here have any experience renting an RV for a WDW vacation at FW (or anything else)? Is it a cost effective option? Any resources or links that anyone could steer me towards? I'm brand new to FW but since I have annual passes, I thought this would be a great time to try it.

Camping is not always a cost saver, it can be expensive to rent, there are other less expensive ways to enjoy a Disney vacation, however if you are interrested in this type of travel (Camping / RVing) its a great vacation option. www.elmonterv.com and www.cruiseamerica.com are the biggest rental rv companies

We checked into it and it is definitely NOT a money saver (even for a family of six!) By the time you pay the rental fee plus the fee for your stay it will cost more than the value hotels for sure. We checked into both renting here and driving and renting something there. We decided for our next trip (in November) to tent camp, which will be cheap. Good luck deciding! We were surprised that camping is not a $$$ saver (at least not in an RV!)

I agree that's renting an RV is not a money saver....not unless you had planned on staying in a deluxe resort. But sometimes, it's the best answer. It was for us back in 1997. We had always wondered if we would like traveling in a motorhome and we wanted to bring our cat with us and still stay on Disney property. Renting from Cruise America let us do all of these. It wasn't cheap, but it was a great vacation. We found out we really loved camping, not tent camping anymore (we're too old for that ), but more comfortable camping. And we totally fell in love with Fort Wilderness! So much so, that we bought a pop-up and then later graduated to a travel trailer. If you can afford it and want to try renting an RV, go for it. We never regretted it.

I looked into it a while back when comparing it to a Cabin at FW. I looked at the CruiseAmerica site which showed a Kissimmee drop-off/pick-up location. You could probably stay in a All-Star or moderate resort on the property for less than the room (but why would you if you have FW? ).

Although I didn't do it because ended up getting a pop-up, I also considered the fact that an RV gives me a fridge and a place to cook, eat some meals, and save money versus eating in restaurants every meal. Even with the Disney dining plan sometimes I don't want a full meal. We have 3 kids so the ol' food cost can add up real fast if eating out.

You might have to pay a deposit (which you should get back) and a mileage allowance (which you should get back). You might also need to bring some stuff from home that's not included with the RV (but available for an extra fee from the RV company) so it might take a little more pre-planning. It would also be something of a novelty and one thing you might remember that you can't put a price on!

I looked into renting a RV awhile back. It was expensive, for what it cost we elected to purchase a pop . If you can afford it camping at Fort Wilderness is wonderfull, rent an RV try it see how you like it. I already new the answer we enjoy Fort Wilderness, and camping.
