Renting a vacation home, stuff I might forget to bring?

I was curious of what you might need to bring or buy when you get there? First time renting a vacation home.

Hi!Most vacation homes provide soap and tea/coffee for first night only.If you dont want to visit home first to see whats there - take it that you will need to buy all your food,cleaning equipment,toiletries etc for your stay

Read the owners terms and conditions - it may state what ..if anything is provided.

You may find that previous guests have left unopened packets ,cans etc.I instruct my cleaners not to remove unused items.But other owners may give other instructions.

Many homes have irons,hair dryers,towels etc.

Yeah, I did read about the starter stuff. Thanks! We have 14 people staying with us. What about extra towels and wash cloths? Think it would be a good idea to bring some from home?

After checking out the pool home, we went to a local Wal-mart and got a few items, i.e. food, laundry soap, dishwashing soap, we always bring our own hair-dryer. They did supply plenty of towels but then again we're just 2 people.

With 14 people.....immediately comes to mind: lots of laundry and dishwashing detergent! We did 2 loads of laundry a day with just 4 adults and two kids. and two dishwasher loads....(we didn't use any paper products).

In hindsight, we should have brought more face cloths and dish cloths.....definately not enough on hand.

We rented first time last year and it was well worth the trip to wal-mart and buying supplies and then tidying up at the end of the stay.

I would suggest if anybody has little ones on the trip bring some extra outlet covers . The house we stayed in had a few but not all. We couldn't find any on the 192 strip including Publix and didn't want to go as far as Wal Mart. We used the "must pack" duct tape which worked fine. LOL as I insisted on packing it!

Homes should have extra electric plugs in the so called junk draw. I would ask as many questions of the home owner as I could think of.
We try to keep in our home what most people would need for there stay. We always ask each guest if there is anything they need for their stay in our home that they have not seen on the amenities list.
It is a home away from home meaning they start you out with tissue, paper towel and a small laundry soap that can do maybe 1-2 loads. The rest is up to the renters. If you are not there for long besides food there will be little cost for extras.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation and would like to hear all about your experience. I am always trying to hear what you needed and what made your trip the great time it was.

The only thing we wished we had was some salt and pepper. We had gone grocery shopping and remembered sweetner for our coffee but totally forgot about salt and pepper. Our home had plenty of towels. We did laundry every day. Another surprising thing that the home didn't have was a sponge or a dishcloth, so finally on day 2, I remembered to buy some. I personally wouldn't pack a lot of stuff. I would just go check it out. Make a list of all the things you think you might need and then see if any of it is there. There ought to be some things to get you started. I packed 10-12 dryer sheets in my suitcase only because it didn't take up much room and it made my clothes smell good. Also, I brought a pen and paper and I am glad I did. Unless the villa advertises free long distance, I would have a phone card too. The villa we had said we could make local calls, so I was surprised not to be able to call the Pizza Hut down the street without a calling card. Good Luck.

We have at least two towels per guest - we are equipped to have two per guest up to our max of 10 people. Count on all the utensils being there and dishes, etc, but I'd count on getting salt and pepper and sugar and such.

We have a list we send out to guests with suggested items to bring/buy.
