Renting a car is the best/only way, right?

Our Disney trip is 11/26-12/3 but we're thinking about going to Legoland for a couple of days before. Checking into airfare, it looks like right now we could fly from PIT to Tampa instead of MCO for a much better price. While the thought of driving doesn't excite me, I know it's not that far in reality.

I'm assuming the best thing to do is rent a car at TPA, right? Then we can drive to legoland, stay there for 2 days and then drive to Disney. I also thought this would make it easier to stop for groceries instead of using a service like we have in the past.

I've only rented a car a handful of times and most of it was handled through work for a conference or something. We'll be renting it from TPA and returning there, right? How do I get the best price? When I look it up now, it looks like it will be $3xx for 10 days for an economy car?? Surely I can find something cheaper?

Thanks :)

I always rent a car when at WDW, no matter what airport I fly into. Disney does about as good a job as they can with the busses, but they stress me out. I like being able to leave an go whenever and wherever I want. Nothing gets me going than walking up to a bus stop only to see the bus leaving, or the line so long it'll take another bus to get all the people on.

Legoland is about halfway between Tampa and Orlando, so if you want to start your trip there, and can save money flying into TPA, then by all means do it.

You can also look in to flying in to TPA and flying out of MCO, to see how that prices out.

If you're not going to need the car at Disney (for example, staying on property and using Disney Transportation) you can also consider doing a one-way rental, picking the car up at TPA and dropping it off close to Disney.

Lots of possibilities to look at :)

One could do a towncar also.

You could also fly into St. Petersburg as it's close to Tampa but sometimes the fares are cheaper.

just my opinion but I say car rental is the only way to go. Done public transportation and its generally good but can be aggravating and time consuming.

Try priceline. I got a fullsize car for 12/day for a 10 day august reservation.

Well, I went ahead and booked PIT-TPA...it really was the best deal that I've seen thus far and wanted to jump on it. I'm just not sure what these airlines are going to do and didn't want to risk it!

So, what's the best way to go about getting a rental for a good price. I don't want to negate the savings I've made on the airfare by spending it on a rental car. There's only 2 adults and 1 child so we don't need a minivan or anything large. We're going 11/24-12/3. Thanks! :)
