Renting a camcorder?

I'm thinking about doing this. We're basically happy with using film cameras and have been happy with our Disney pics, but this time I was thinking about recording pictures. But since we probably won't use a camcorder overall much after Disney (until the next vacation which may not be too soon as in the next year or so), I thought I could rent one and use.

I'd just like some other angles of consideration if you please on renting, esp if anyone else has done this? or is this too farfetched? :confused3

very budget minded here and cannot afford to spend hundreds of dollars on a camcorder but I might can stretch for a one week rental which I've found one for $99-$129.00 for a week which is all the time I'll need it for.

trying to find relatively inexpensive ways to keep the memories alive for the kids in the years to come..... ::MinnieMo

a local Rent-A-Center will rent a camcorder (many models to choose from) for short term rentals....$50 for a week for a camcorder with a $300 deposit (totally refundable when the camera is returned)....anybody ever do this?

I second the rent-to-own places. We used to do that when I was little and mom's coworker's hubby was a manager at one.

Also, negotiate!! If you have a couple - say Rent-A-Center and Rentway, go to both and find out how much they want. Use that to negotiate with the other. I used to have to rent furniture to fill our office trailers at a concert festival we hold every year. I'd walk into one place with the breakdown of what the other place was offering and ask them to beat their deal. Never failed, the second place ALWAYS topped the first.

For our last trip we actually bought a disposable camcorder from CVS. It was $30 and when you are done (20 min of digital film) you send it in and they send you a DVD.

Unfortunatly, ours was left on so the battery ran out. But from the first few minutes of filming that we did do, it was great. We saw a lot of other people using it. We also realized that we would never really need to buy a video camera b/c we always forgot to take it out. Its really small and easy to use.

Can't beat it for $30!

*with the battery, it said on it that you could either buy a replacement or CVS would do it for you. We were just to lazy to do it.

Check out EBay. I bought a very nice used camcorder on there for a little over $200.
