I rented a ressie from a member for Christmas week. I know there is a risk but I am not sure exactly how it works.
Can the member cancel my ressie at anytime without me even knowing? Is there a point where they can't change the ressie?
I just would be devastated to get there and have no ressie. I have the paper confirmation in my name and have called to verify the ressie with member services.
What are my risks? How would Disney handle a situation where I came with the written confirmation but it was cancelled by member?

The member can cancel up until you check in.

Hopefully, you have written contract indicating the dates, resort and room type you have rented. Disney will not provide any assistance in the unlikely event your reservtaion is cancelled before you arrive. You should have a home address and phone number (in the written contract) where you could contact the member if necessary.

These rentals do depend heavily on trust. You should check out the references provided by the member, you should verify the resevation with the resort and you should have already checked out the previous posts of the member before entering into any agreement with them.

Having said all of that, we have had minimal reports of any problems with rentals thru our site.

Also, if a member does cancel a ressie 30 days or less before your scheduled check-in date, there is a penalty. Those points go into a "holding acct" and can only be used to make resies 60 days or less from check out day. It is very unlikely the member will cancel after the 30 day mark, unless you have not made the final payments or whatever is required by your specific contract.

As Doc said, Disney will have nothing to do with a member rental. Your transaction is purely personal between you and the person you are renting from. If you are paid in full and have the written confirmation and are reasonably assured the person you working with is on the level, you should have no problem
