We have rented points for a January stay, but it looks like we'll be members by then. If this is the case, is internet access for me free as a DVC member, or am I still considered a non-member because I am using rented points?

The official answer is that the internet is free to members when staying on their points.

I did the same thing this past October. Our reservation at AKV was rented, but we became members in September. Our bill showed the charge for the internet, but I went to the front desk and showed my member ID card and they took it off. I made a point to tell them that the reservation was not made on my points and they said that the internet is free for DVC members.

FWIW, when you access the internet, it says that there is a $9.95 per day charge. Underneath it, it says that the internet access is free for DVC members. I don't recall it saying anything about having to be staying on your points, although I believe that is the official policy.

In October I rented 2 2br at OKW and both villas were never charged internet charges and their room was under their name so I'm not sure how it works. I asked the same question about when you stay at another hotel paying cash and was told I'd have to pay because we were not at a DVC hotel. So I'm very confused.

The official policy is that internet is free when staying on member points. So as long as the reservation is booked on someone's points, you shouldn't be charged. Otherwise, you're still supposed to be charged the $9.95 per day. :)

Actually, it is staying at a DVC resort on points or member cash. If staying on regular cash reservations, an II/RCI exchange or staying at a regular Disney resort, even on points, the internet is not free.
