When you rent a vehicle can you ask for a carseat or do you have to provide your own?

Most of the rental companies allow you to rent (for an additional charge) a car seat from them 'subject to availability'. However, renting a car seat is NOT a good idea! You never know how the seat was previously handled, if all the parts and pieces are in working order, if it's been in an accident previously. Much better idea to take your own. If yours are too heavy, bulky for the plane...and your child is younger...then a Cosco Scenera is a great travel choice and very inexpensive.

They usually are not very clean either - NASTY!!!

We must have been lucky. The few we have used have been very cleaned and sealed in a bag.

We have done both, brought our own and used the rental companies

Please bring your own. In addition to the cleanliness, size, safety (recalled, in accident, etc)- any additional equipment in a car rental is on request only. Not guarenteed. Should the person ahead of you not bring back the carseat on time, you are sitting at the airport, out of luck.
